My old MacBook Pro finally died, and at the Mac store one of the employees used a “sled,” as he called it, to access the hard drive once he’d pulled it.

I still have the hard drive, and since it seems to be working itself, I’d like a dock or sled to connect it to my new MacBook. But the world of docks and sleds is new to me. Can anyone recommend a dock that’s reasonably priced and reliable?

As a recovery tool, I like this enclosure from Sabrent:

The reason I like it is that it is easy to use with either 3.5" or 2.5" drives. It's a great tool to keep on hand. Also, it's USB 3.0, so recoveries go pretty fast.

Okay, I appreciate the suggestion. From the reviews it seems reasonably popular.

Is there any reason to prefer an enclosure over the vertical-mounting sled?

The enclosure can be used with any computer with a USB port (preferably, but not necessarily 3.0) for accessing the hard drive.
