View Full Version : Pathfinder How does cleave work with a large attack range?

Lets say someone has an attack range of 30 feet. Cleave is rather picky in that it wants extra targets to be adjacent to the first one, and medium vs medium, that makes sense, but as you get larger in size, the hexes do not work with you the same way. So my question is, if you have a crazy long reach, do targets still need to be right next to each other, or does the size change effect how cleave treats adjacent targets?

I mean, you literally only have to read the Feat.

"Benefit: As a standard action, you can make a single attack at your full base attack bonus against a foe within reach. If you hit, you deal damage normally and can make an additional attack (using your full base attack bonus) against a foe that is adjacent to the first and also within reach. You can only make one additional attack per round with this feat. When you use this feat, you take a –2 penalty to your Armor Class until your next turn."

Adjacent to the first and also within Reach. Not "adjacent to the first unless your Reach is really big". Both have to apply.

What this lets you do is, as a guy with 30 ft. Reach, attack a dude 30 feet away and also hit his buddy standing next to him that is also in your Reach, but won't let you hit the guy 60 feet from the other guy at the opposite edge of your Reach.

Sorry, wrong choice of words. The other side of our map is hexes and we are currently running a kingmaker campaign. Needless to say, hexes where on the mind :p
