I just went to check out the D&D homepage and got some strange counter.

http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/welcome

It is saying 10 hours, 2 minutes, someodd seconds until something is happening.

Anybody have a clue?

I was trying to log into the RPGA part to request some adventures but NOOO, they have something going on....

It's the countdown to adventure!

No idea. Maybe they broke the site and that's how long 'til it comes back.

My guess is D&D 4th Edition will be released. They aren't exactly hiding it, with the word "4dventure" and all.

Ok, looks like a duplicate thread. Will a Mod please come and delete this? I didn't see the other one.

It's a countdown to the announcement of 4th Edition at GenCon. Even though it's not official yet, all clues point in that direction. Look at the link Dhavaer* gave.

*Do I get a cookie for spelling it right?

Hmm. I'm amused by your presumption, but I don't really give cookies. Therefore:

Could also have something to do with the replacement for Dragon and Dungeon magazines.

I don't think they're working towards 4th edition quite yet.

Go away! I just got my final Dragon two days ago, and I'm still waiting to find out what they're replacing it with.

*grumble, grumble, sulk*

[hr]EDIT: Wait a minute...

4dventure...
fourdventure...
Fordventure...
Ford...Venture

A Venture with Ford! Maybe they're making D&D cars! :smalltongue:

Or realising a series of adventures based on films with Harrison Ford! :smalltongue:

They're releasing alternate rules that use nothing but d4s. ;)

I like the "speculation" that WotC was advertising the Ford Venture... 4D Venture.

Nah. Then it'd be "d4 Venture"

Thank you. It's nice to know one's observations are appreciated.

They're eliminating normal dice and switching to the "dVenture", of which you will roll four for all the core mechanics.

If it is 4th edition it had better be backward compatable. They are bringing out 3rd edition material right before it and unless they want to end up digging bullets out of their feet or fighting off T$R comparisons they will have to be able to use the old stuff with the new stuff.

They probably won't make it back compatible.

If they were REALLY evil, they'd use the DI as a means to deliver "patches" for current 3.5e books.

Nah, the truth is they've landed the license for the "Venture Bros (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Venture_Bros.)" RPG.

In each adventure you get a starting clone pool of 4 D(ean) Ventures (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dean_Venture). It's so obviously a veiled reference to that. (like, duh!) :smallwink:

NO!

I just mastered 3.5!

Please, Lord, even though I don't believe in you, do not let it be 4th Edition!

I would play that game. So. Hard.

Best guess is they're announcing 4th Edition, which will be actually released sometime next year.

hmm... maybe they're switching over to a mechanic similar to this (http://www2.hawaii.edu/~rdeese/RPG/D02/D02.htm).
