For a while now I've been trying to find a place for the summoner archetype as a homebrew addition. I've already found an excellent Druid subclass on the DMG that does this so now I'm looking for an Arcane analogue.
Now I have a rough summoner subclass tacked onto my Invoker homebrew class (Int halfcaster) but it doesn't feel like it fits that well there. Theres the possibility of making a Summoner Wizard subclass but that would both conflict with the Conjurer and be limited in power, so my next thought was as selection of Warlock invocations to add onto the Pact of the Chain in order to provide a familiar that acts like a beastmaster ranger pet. Couple that with the UA summoning spells and maybe another invocation to provide other summon spells once/day like some existing invocations and it seems a better fit, but I'd like to hear thoughts on it first.
