A paladin (vengeance or ancients), an eldritch knight, or a warlock -1 level?

I知 AFB, and I need to let my party know what kind of tank I値l be playing.

I have a specific concept in mind that involves a heavily armored tank with the spell misty step. It痴 between the above classes (the warlock starts with one level of fighter).

My other option is a bladesinger, who obviously gets the spell first.

Full caster, i.e. warlock

Misty step is a second spell. A full caster gets that at level 3. Warlocks pact magic progresses (at least at first) at the same rate as full casters in terms of level. With one level elsewhwre that makes level 4 for warlock with a 1st level somewhere else. Paladin woukd get it at 5 and ek at 7. With multiclassing for casting classes you take 1 for each lvl of full caster, 1/2 per level of paladin, and 1/3 for ek. I mention this because a paladin 2 sorc 2 would also get it at level 4, which sets you in the direction of the sorcadin (or more amusingly paladorc).

Except you still pick spells as a single class, as if you weren't multiclassed.

Ah good point, forgot that.

(vengeance or devotion)

I think the devotion could be said to get it last, since they don't get it at all

but benefit of the doubt be on your side. as others said, warlock-1 gets it at total level 4.

Eladrin gets it at level 1, once/short rest.

Then go for bladesinger to get more uses on level 3 ;)

Ooops. I meant ancients. I値l edit, although the question is answered.

Thanks.

Warlock, as stated... but Firbolg gets it as a racial right out of the gate and after Xanathar's is published, there may be that High Elf feat which grants it too. Just to factor in your decision-making.

Firblog doesn't get misty step. It get a ability to turn Invisible.

Firbolg does not have misty step; Eladrin does, if you use the one in the DMG. The Unearthed Arcana Eladrin get's an ability that is exactly the same as misty step, just not the spell. In my opinion, this is strictly superior (and unwarranted, as misty step is already regarded as an excellent spell).

Ah yes, my bad. It is called Hidden Step. Like Misty Step a bonus action, but obviously different effect. Memory failing me...

I don't want to hijack this thread, but is this AL legal?

It locks you in SCAG, if you care.

It's not, Eladrin is from UA or DMG, not AL allowed sources.
