is there a master list somewhere, or in some book that lists all the poisons available? I see a list of them in the DMG, but only as a reference to something else, it doesn't explain what they do...

There may be a master list for poisons somewhere. Even a handbook, but this list (http://www.dandwiki.com/wiki/SRD:Poisons) should detail what poisons do and the many varieties there are. I believe the site may not be an actual SRD, but homebrew. However, I do recall all of the poisons listed in the DMG in this list, a long with a few others.

It's generally a bad idea to trust anything on dandwiki.

There's a lot of useful stuff in there of course, but I'll say that the triple weapon capsule is an absolute game changer when it comes to poisoning.

This guide on the other hand, can not be over-recommended.
