I want to see your character builds. I'ma lay down a few rules first though.

1) You must use the standard stat spread for your abilities: 8, 10, 12, 13, 14, 15
2) Published material only, no Unearthed Arcana
3) I am a fan of e6, so only build your characters up to level six.

With those in mind, I'll start us off:

We thought our pal was silly for playing his current Adventure's League character.

Then he got enough downtime to transfer Gauntlets of Ogre strength to it from another character.

Goblin barbarian.

Str9 (19 at level 3 w/ gauntlets)
Dex16
Con16
Int10
Wis12
Cha12

It is entirely dependant upon this one magical item. He is hoping for a better strength boosting item in t2.

It dumps strength at level 1 and saves feats by only maxing Dex/Con instead of all three. It becomes tankier sooner and doesn't bother pumping strength, freeing up 2 feats were he to Max str/Dex/con otherwise.

Higher Dex earlier is more than ac. It's initiative, stealth, thieve's tools etc too.

I think he took athletics, acrobatics, perception, and stealth as his skills.

It doesn't get to use heavy weapons, but man is it funny seeing him role-play. He switches between a shield or actually two-handed with versatile weapons. It's this first build I've seen actually utilize versatile weapons and not make me cringe. Plus, it's hilarious that a battle-axe looks like a greataxe to this goblin.
