View Full Version : Portent/Heighten Sickening Radiance is pretty busted....

I am sure most of you see where this is going but I'll explain nonetheless.

As soon as a creature fails the first save of sickening radiance and suffers 1 level of exhaustion they now make all future ability checks with disadvantage. If you edge out the spell such that after an ally's grapple is successful you include the enemy but not your ally that enemy creature is going to have a hard time....

It's almost like it was built for Hound of Ill Omen (Shadow Sorcerer level 6 feature).

Any combination of Enlarge, Athletics Expertise, Wild Shape and/or Grappling Advantage on an ally means that the grappler must be dealt with (or the spell dispelled/concentration broken).

Additionally, there are a multitude of spells that restrain creatures but instead of working off of saves for follow up escape attempts, instead require successful strength/dexterity checks to escape (Ensnaring Strike, Entangle, Web). Meaning if one of these spells connects initially, an ally need only follow up with a heightened/portent Sickening Radiance and that creature is certifiably boned.

After failing the first save, the creature in question need only fail 2 more saves before they must now make all future saves at disadvantage...

If you're feeling especially cruel have an ally take the levitate spell and as soon as an enemy fails and is forced to levitate helplessly, drop sickening radiance on them and voila! Dead creature.

Here's the worst part. Being immune to radiant damage doesn't make you immune to the exhaustion.
