Monk spending Ki to channel energy

I was recently at a convention far from home, sat down to a pathfinder society game for players with levels from 3 to 7.

While there, I met a monk who had a way to spend their ki in order to generate a channel energy. I didn't get a chance to peek at their sheet or talk with them (game went late.)

Suggestions on how to pull this off? I heard the name champion of irori or paladin of irori. (or whatever the name of the monk/self-perfection god in pathfinder is.)

The champion of the enlightened (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/classes/prestige-classes/other-paizo/c-d/champion-of-the-enlightened/) can do this, but it is a prestiege class. The enlightened paladin (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/classes/core-classes/Paladin/archetypes/paizo-paladin-archetypes/enlightened-paladin-paladin-archetype) gets a ki pool but cannot channel energy. The sacred fist/ (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/classes/hybrid-classes/warpriest/archetypes/paizo-warpriest-archetypes/sacred-fist/) warpriest gets ki, channels, and looks like a monk but on warpriest chassis.

Champion of Irori (http://www.archivesofnethys.com/PrestigeClassesDisplay.aspx?ItemName=Champion%20of %20Irori) is a Paladin/Monk PrC that can spend 2 Ki Points to either Lay on Hands, or Smite Evil.
Nothing is stated that they can use Ki to Channel Energy though. Unless they were using Ki to get Lay on Hands uses and then burning them for Channel Energy, but the ability isn't worded to allow that.

Runner-ups:
Iroran Paladin (http://www.archivesofnethys.com/ArchetypeDisplay.aspx?FixedName=Paladin%20Iroran%2 0Paladin) LOSES Channel Energy in order to gain a Ki Pool.
Meditation Crystals (http://www.archivesofnethys.com/EquipmentMiscDisplay.aspx?ItemName=Meditation%20cr ystal) can be used for a Ki Point or Lay on Hands use (and previously worked by 'storing' previous day's Ki/Hands).

I wonder if Drunken Ki/the Drunken Master Monk archetype can be used to give you unlimited uses of Lay On Hands and Smite Evil per day...
