Is there a list of the traits available for monsters, such as on DMG p280-281, but with the actual efffects of the traits? (That is, not just saying "Aggressive" but "As a bonus action, the creature can move up to its speed toward a hostile creature that it can see"). Just so I don't have to either flip back and forth between two books, or type out the list myself.

A spreadsheet that lets you put in AC, HP and traits and get a CR, or vice versa--start with CR, add traits, get recommended attack and defense stats--would be even better.

Well, there's this quick-and-dirty, method of CR calculation (http://1-dot-encounter-planner.appspot.com/quick-monster-stats.html).

This website (http://www.dmsguild.com/product/172302/Features-and-Traits?filters=0_0_0_0_45462_0) appears to have a download of all(?) the traits and then some.

This website (http://www.enworld.org/forum/rpgdownloads.php?do=download&downloadid=1189) appears to have a download of the non-trait calculations.

I have not downloaded or tried either as I am always nervous about random files for d/l on the internet, so user beware.

The Angry DM has done a whole series (http://theangrygm.com/?s=monster+building) on Monster Building that is more intuitive than the DMG, but still requires referencing the DMG and MM.

Blessings upon you both. May you never be trampled by wombats.

The DMGuild item is a PDF which has the text for the traits. Does not have the CR effect but I can get that from DMG. Copy/pastable.

Edit: Make that "Many of the traits, but not all"; for instance, it doesn't have Martial Advantage or Leadership, as found on the hobgoblins. The writer also needs to learn the difference between its and it's.

The xlsx spreadsheet from Enworld doesn't seem to have a virus. Needs more documentation but I think it will be useful when I figure it out.

The Rough CR calculator was a big help too.

Problem you risk to encounter is that the Traits often don't affect the CR much, but changing the damages, the HPs and the AC of a monster will generally affect their CR.

Yep, I'll need to fiddle with it a bit--if I add damage, I'll need to reduce AC or HP, or subtract a trait, to compensate. No worries.

Traits often affect a creature's estimated AC, damage, and HP.

Sometimes by as much as two times as much.
