Hey guys,
One of my players in my game wants to play as a binder (from Tome of Magic) which is fine. He's also going to use a prestige class for it later but the problem is is that all the binder prestige classes pretty much "tie you" to one vestige. Rules-wise, this doesn't matter but roleplaying-wise it really doesn't fit his character concept (which is more of a "follow all the vestiges"). While playing a pure binder isn't out of the question for him, he would like to have a prestige class.

We've talked about it but we can't really think up much. The concept is that the PrC chooses to be a generalist rather than a specialist, gaining the ability to make pacts quicker and expel vestiges without as much of a penalty. Obviously, the PrC should give full soul binding progression. And he should probably get Rapid Pact Making as a bonus feat and/or increase in number of daily uses. Requirements would probably be something like Expel Vestige, Sudden Ability Focus, and Ignore Special Requirements. Probably also require the character not to have Favored Vestige. Other than that, we're sort of stumped. Any help would greatly be appreciated!

The only Binder PrC that doesn't seem vestige-specific is the Anima Mage, which would require at least a three level investment in both Binder and Wizard (unless Precocious Apprentice is used to circumvent the arcane spell requirement - then you'd only need one Wizard or Sorcerer level).

Knight of the Sacred Seal is next best, because it lets you *choose* your primary vestige. The others are even more restrictive, unfortunately, by forcing a specific vestige on the character.

Was there a particular PrC that the player in question was leaning toward?

EDIT: I could imagine a variant Knight of the Sacred Seal in which a few vestiges were given "patron" status for the purpose of the class abilities. But that'd depend on the player's willingness to play a physical combat-oriented character.

Ya KoSS is the best offensive melee for a binder.

But dump some stats into warlock, and then you got tons of other things open to you, ill try to find the homebrew binder PrC for it. But other than that try making one up thats always good.

You know what would be cool, was a cleric sect that worshiped a vestiage into divine perspective, making the lost soul a god. Theres a good plot hook for a DM, and a new twist on an alrdy good story.

Vestige: Tenebrous. PrC: Tenebrous Apostate. It exists.

oh ya, forgot abou that, i usually only dip into binder and then go for a sor or warlock multi class. Dont usually get as far as tenebrous.

Well, part of the problem is that there doesn't exist a prestige class that really seems to fit his character concept. Essentially, his character comes from a religious sect that believes that if you only worship one deity, then you're only seeing part of the picture. So they worship all of them. This is reflected also in the fact that their binders don't wish to tie themselves down with any specific vestige. And, as everyone has said, all of the binder PrCs are all very vestige specific (except for Anima Mage).

Yeah, he's going for more of an Arcanist Nuke sort of role then physical combat so KoSS probably wouldn't work out all that well.

I'm loathe to making up an entirely new PrC but there really isn't all that many binder PrC (in comparison to say, Fighter-type or Wizard).
