The best TBS ever, in my opinion, though rather complicated for newbies to pick up. I made this thread in hope to invoke some interest as this game is severely underrated and relatively unknown, and to raise some interesting discussions from the veteran players.

My favorite combination to play is Water 4 Air 2 (Water Specialist in TWT) Explorer Pacifist Constructor, Orcs as starting race in Shadow Magic (Doom Bats and Warlords are utterly insane) and Elves in The Wizard's Throne (Druids are amazing with their Entanglement and Concealment, and Glade Runners are the best, and cheapest, scouts in the game)

What is the game about?

It's a strategy turn by turn game, you could say, a bit like erf in a way (but not as goofy).
Basically, you are a wizard who leads a race to victory, using your spells, troops and heroes to win.
It's a direct descendent of Master of Magic, same kind of feel, but better graphics.

Is it a large game? (hard-disk wise)

Not a large game HD-wise. And I agree that the game is great, though the single player campaign can be quite hard.

How are the graphics and gameplay?

I used to play this game a lot, quite good graphics, and quite fun.

When I didn't make my own wizard I was always Anon. Love Archons.
If I made my own I was generally Anon-like, maybe with a few variations. A few years ago, it was my all-time favourite game.

It's max a couple of CDs worth of data. I guess, around a gig installed.

As a time sink, it's wonderful!

"Just one more turn... Whao, why is the sun coming up and my alarm clock going off?"

Gallery of Age of wonders: Shadow magic (http://www.triumphstudios.com/shadowmagic/gallery.php) on the website. It's the latest version of the game.

Agoe of Wonders II is fun game. I recently bought it in a gaming magazine, but without add-on, sadly. I haven't played it much though, turn-based strategies aren't my thing. I've played mostly goblins, but also humans and halfings in campaign and I've tried frostlings and elves as well.
Here (http://aow2.heavengames.com/) is good site about this game. There are a lot of stuff there, including hints for all races.
I used to adore Age of Wonders I long ago... I don't remember why exactly.

Despite the fact that the second part does some things better, and is just prettier, I still prefer the first one. Mostly because it actually lets you level your main hero, and the leveling process itself wasn't a crapshoot. Yeah, I'm talking about the whole "here's three random abilities to choose from" as opposed to the original game's "pick any ability from this complete list."

Ashtar: I used to do that every weekend . . .

Kaelaroth:
Archons are awesome, the 3rd best race (below Goblins, due to their insane Growth bonus, and Dark Elves, due to them having absolutely amazing tier 2&3 units)

Maxymiuk: I think that AoW II is superior to the first one in every aspect beside siege battles and map size (Watch Towers are exactly as big as Cities in Tactical Combat :smallannoyed: )

also, as I became more experienced I realized heroes are only really, truly, useful as mobile domain expanders- Look at the Orcish Warlord, compare it to a hero of a decent level (10-15), for a much, much, smaller investment the Warlord is usually just slightly inferior to a well equipped hero.

By the way, anyone up to a Play-By-Email/Multiplayer game? (TWT or SM, I don't care)

Hey Fellow Archon Lover.
I like Goblins too! Especially with Water Magic.

I also like Nomads, if you happen to have Shadow Magic, then you'll know what I'm talking about. I killed my brother's Shadow Demon army by trapping everyone with a troupe of Slavers.
Good Times.

Gah, had to pick it up again. And it has trapped me once more. I love elves. Can't get enough of Iron Maidens and Fairy Dragons! Phase is glorious! I personally like the Fire domain, destructive magic at its finest. Though a lot of units have fire resistance/immunity =(
