I just followed a link to #736 (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0736.html) on TVTropes, and realized this strip works pretty well as a stand-alone - that is, it can be read by someone who knows nothing about OOTS at all and be fully enjoyed, because it doesn't rely on the greater plot or on previously knowing the characters at all and is pretty self-contained.

What other installments do you think fit that criterion as well? Which ones work best in isolation? Aside from the first couple strips, I guess, when it was still a gag-a-day comic :smalltongue:

I've always liked Fiend or Foe (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0538.html). Just beautiful dialog throughout. Lots of funny, no rules jokes (okay, maybe one), and no dependence on the plot to enjoy.

Potionomics (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0135.html) seems to fit well in that role, in my opinion. And Craft (Plotline) (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0134.html) too.

That's a really great pick! Works really well by itself.

Power Word: Annoy (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0306.html) is a long-time favourite of mine.

I like to recommend The Cliffport Redemption (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0387.html).

A Brief Intermission (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0301.html) has long been a favorite of mine, but it's too obviously a standalone strip :smalltongue:

Guerillas in Their Midst (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0511.html) works well because of all the dialog transitions.

"V unmasks the evil twin" (397) (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0397.html) stands alone pretty well, and is a fine example of how Rich presents V as having a dry wit.

All you need in order to understand #136 (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0136.html) is to be a Monty Python fan. It enhances the joke to know all the variants of polearms found in D&D, but it's not essential.

This one (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0711.html) is pretty funny. Never heard about such pharma sects before, actually, so it was even educational.

And this one (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0226.html)was too funny to be considered a filler. However, some of them (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0216.html) can only be funny for a die-hard roleplayer.

This one's a classic.
