I made a new sword called the richter sword and I wanted to know what people think about it if it's to powerful or not powerful enough

Richter sword

a brown-hilted longsword sits before you, the only special thing it is that hilt dirty, and yet when you feel it, it feels oddly clean.

CL 16 craft arms and armour earthquake, price + 34500
this a +2 earthquake longsword, able to use the spell earthquake(as the same level as the creator) once per day

Well, simple enough. I would require the player to drive the sword into the ground to unleash the earthquake. More dramatic.

Some fluffier fluff for you.

Before you stands a longsword, with a slightly dirty seeming handle. Once per day, you may drive the blade of this longsword into the ground, and cast the spell Earthquake, with as a CL15.

The only part that was kinda of confusing was the fluff. But, then again I've been awake for many many hours.
Doesn't seem very abusable to me.

hey, this is the first time i've ever said this about something player made but you could pump up the power. or take down the level you need to be to make it.

Go ahead, that's why I put it up.

How come a cleric of 12th lvl can create a +2 longsword that ALSO casts an earthquake spell once per day of a cleric three levels higher than the creator?

it actully doesn't really matter what level you are for the spell earthquake so I just put it at 15.

Actually, it DOES matter when someone tries to dispel it.

Djinn is very much correct, CL for magic items is involved for the dispel attempts made against it, as well as other things such as spell resistance (Though that isn't an issue for Earthquake). However, 13-15 is a perfectly fine caster level for Earthquake.

Not, however, if the item creator is level 12. He can't actually produce anything that casts at a level higher than that, so you have to raise the required caster level to at least 13, as well and make the caster level of the item match the caster level of the creator.

I just made it so that you can cast it as the same level as the creator.

That's his point, the creator needs to be able to cast the spell to actually create the item, and the caster level of the item needs to be sufficient enough for the a character with that caster level to cast the spell involved. The creator can imbue the item with a caster level lower than their own, but it still needs to be at least the minimum required to cast the spell.

However, this is all moot, because 15 is, as I already said, perfectly fine for this item. It requires a creator able to cast Earthquake with at least caster level 15, as a result.

Seems like the perfect weapon to bring your character down with a selfless finish, sword fighting with a big badguy through a tunnel complex then just before you are defeated and killed anyway, drive it into the wall and bury him with you, now THERE is a death scene

wow you can say that again, but please don't because that would be repetitive. Wouldn't it kill your party.

Only if they're within 80 ft. of the epicentre and are significantly harmed beforehand.
