[Sorry if any of this has been covered before, but I didn't want to get in trouble for bringing a months-old thread back from the dead]

My gaming group is about to start a SW Saga Edition game in a couple of weeks, and I've been looking through the Core Rulebook to try to come up with a character. However, I've found a couple of questions to which I can find no answer in the Rulebook.

First, we're starting above first level (don't know the specifics, but it's somewhere from 5th to 8th level, probably), but I have no idea where I'd find any Wealth-by-Level rules (or if there even are any such rules in SWSE).

Secondly, and this is just a mechanics thing, why would anyone ever choose to wear armor in this game? I mean, if I get to add my Dex modifier AND one-half my level to my Ref save, eventually (assuming I've got a decent Dex, which nearly everyone will considering how basically everyone will probably be using ranged weapons), my Dex plus 1/2 my level will be better than anything armor can give, especially considering the Max Dex Bonuses of the armors (which to me seem very low). At 20th level, you could have 10 + Dex + Class bonuses, or you could have 10 + 1 (Max Dex) + Class bonuses and be slowed down and weighed down (unless you spend talents and such to be really good in heavy armor). And considering you get two ability increases at every 4 levels (if I read that correctly), there's no reason to have a low Dex, when it's important for so many things.

Lastly, I'm looking at playing a Droid (specifically, one sort of like HK-47 from KoTOR), and I just wondered if creating a Droid character is as complicated as it seems at first glance. I'd like to do it, but it's sort of daunting with all these accessories and appendages and cost factors and whatnot. So, has anyone actually played a Droid hero, was it very complicated, and was it worth any complications?

"Q: What are the starting credits for a character above 1st level?

A: As a very loose guideline, your wealth at any given level should be something like this: (level x [level -1]) x 2,000 credits*

* Double this for a noble with the Wealth talent.

This basically assumes that roughly 60% of your total income is spent on upkeep, paying rent, buying food, paying taxes, repairing equipment, getting medical care, etc. (This is a much higher rate than in D&D, where you'd only be expected to "burn" about 10% -- but D&D doesn't have an Imperial Revenue Service.)

For example, at 16th level, it should be somewhere around half a million credits.

The reason I say this is a very loose guideline, though, is that at least half of this wealth would tend to be in a non-liquid form (e.g. property, intangibles such as favors and allies, etc.). As a very rough guideline, having someone owe you a favor (i.e. one-time intervention on your behalf, not to exceed one encounter) is worth about 2,000 x CL; having a long-term ally (i.e. someone who will help you out any time they are available) is worth about 40,000 x CL x (% chance that they're available)."

Armor becomes less useful as you progress in levels, unless you invest in the Soldier talent tree that makes armor more useful.

You add your WHOLE Herioc level to your saves. Not half.

Yes the Droid rules do require more clarity. I havent quite muddled through that one yet.

Take the Soldier's Armour Specialist Talent Tree, as second talent in the tree you can add DEX (limited by Max Bonus) + your level + 1/2 the armour's REF defense bonus. Other talents in the tree add to Max DEX bonus and REF and FORT defenses.
