Totally unscientific “not a survey” question.

Two Level 1 Mountain Dwarf Fighters (Champions) to choose from:

ST 14+2=16.
DE=10.
CO 14+2=16.
IN=8.
WI=14.
CH=10.

ST 8+2=10
DE=15
C0 14+2=16
IN=8
WI=12
CH=14

Thanks.

I'd go with the top stats. Once you get your heavy armor and a shield, you're set.

The second group of stats would be great for a Dwarven swashbuckler though

Stats are odd because one has 2 14's and a 15 while the other has 3 14's, do you plan to MC? IF not:
14,14,14,10,10,8 would be ST14, DX14, CN14, INT10, WIS10, CH8 for ST16, DX14, CN16, INT10, WIS10, CH8 after Mountain Dwarf, though I never personally play those. ST is now high enough to wear heavy armor (a 10 won't get you there), CON gets you extra hp but not much else in this build, DX can be pumped for initiative

What is your vision for how you will fight? It makes a pretty big difference, PAM would want to pump strength, Archer would pump dex, etc...

Jeez, it was a for fun pick one and tell why, not analyze the ****ing numbers.

I'd go for the first one.

I like being strong in D&D, perhaps especially because I'm not in real life.

The only penalty to wearing Heavy Armor that you don't have the STR for is a Speed reduction. Dwarves' Speed is not reduced for wearing Heavy. So if you have the Heavy Armor proficiency as a Dwarf, you can ignore your STR stat.

(D&D 5e Basic Rules, ver. 3. Aug, 2014. p. 13.)

So go have fun!

I'd select the second dwarf stat line, personally. I find that no one suspects Mt. Dwarves to wear chain shirts (or breastplates) and use stealth. :smallamused: AC 15 or AC 17 w/ shield, no stealth disadvantage.

And with a shield you work quite well with Duelist Style, for that +2 dmg. However, I could totally see a Super Mario Bros "Hammer Bros" Dwarf throwing Light Hammers with Archery or TWF Style. All of this is potentially more fun from Hiding. :smallbiggrin:

But the big thing is I can do way more social damage with WIS 12 CHA, 14 than WIS 14 CHA 10. Mix it up with some trickery (say DEX skill shenanigans), and I can get my enemies to fight each other and not me. And in the end a DEX Champion Fighter with +3 CON HP bloat per level is still dangerous when things go bad.

That's my reasoning to go for the latter! :smallcool:

The second one with DEX 15.

What can I say, the Gray Mouser appeals to me more than does Fafhrd.

For the simple fact that I prefer my dwarves strong, I'd go with the first build, wielding the heaviest armor I could, swinging hammers and throwing axes. Maybe even a short beard for a change, "because It got once in the way in a axe throwing contest and it hurt like dropping Moradin's hammer on your toe".

I prefer strength fighters to dexterity fighters. I'd go for the completely classic trope of the strong, tough, wise veteran who is a little slow and a little gruff in his grumpy old age. The literal trope on the dot.

Then pick one yourself and don't ask. No one else can tell you how to have fun.

...you do understand that these numbers are necessary to sufficiently explain "and why" right?

ZorroGames, you have been around long enough to know better than to expect that we wouldn't analyze the ****ing numbers.

I would play #1 since I haven't played a heavy armored, shield master character yet and I want to.
