Question about Monster Slayer's "slayer's prey"

How often is "Slayer's Prey" available for use?

"This benefit lasts until you finish a short or long rest. It ends early if you designate a different creature." I'm sorry, I don't quite understand what they mean by this.



Planar Warrior, the corresponding feature of the Horizon Walker, has no similar statement and so seems to be always available. But in comparison, Slayer's Prey is somehow tied to rests: but I can't work out what they're saying here.

I think I see; I was trying to read it like they were explaining a class ability like lay on hands or channel divinity. That last line is referring to the duration of the enchantment/debuff on each target. Ah.

It's a Concentration-free Hunter's Mark, without the boost to tracking the prey. Since you're working on making it a trophy.

No limit on the amount of uses per rest. You just can't have multiple creatures tagged with it at once.
