View Full Version : Player Help Best Sorcerer spells for running away/being hard to catch

What are the best spells "run away spells" on the Sorcerer spell list? Also, spells that allow you to pass unseen for whatever reason.

Spells that, if caught off guard, can be used to get out of dodge. Or spells that you use to become undetectable. Or enable you to survive in environments otherwise unsuitable for you.

Things like Alter Self - can breathe underwater, enabling you to escape via swimming. Or Feather Fall - jump off a cliff and slow your fall before hitting the bottom. Invisibility. Disguise Self. Misty Step. Dimension Door.

Things that can be cast in combat, or at a moment's notice.

Minor Illusion. Create a rock/barrel. Hide inside.

Misty Step is probably the best one by a fair margin.

Major Illusion can summon something that obscures vision between you and the target.

Expeditious Retreat - 1st level spell, bonus action to cast, for 1 minute you can use Dash as a bonus action. Requires concentration, unfortunately.

Hello Haste?

Doubles your Speed
and gives you an Extra Action Dash

That makes you literally 3x faster

No Haste
30 -> Dash 30 = 60 distance

Haste
60 -> Dash 60 -> Dash 60 = 180 distance

i would hesitate to include any highly situational spells as particularly good for a sorcerer in any situation.

so while expeditious retreat isn't bad for running away, it is *terrible* as a sorcerer spell because it is so situational.

The new 3rd level Thunder Step deserves an honorable mention.

I'm looking for as many different spells as possible. Situational I'm happy with as the point is to get out of as many situations as possible.

Yep, it's a lv. 5 spell that lets you Misty Step 60' as a bonus action on each of your turns. Concentration up to 1 min. Range: Self. Components: Verbal only.
