we have a druid with an animal companion wolf. He has been using the sharing spell with cure spells and protection from arrows. how does the sharing spell ability work? if the cure gives 10 hp of healing does it heal 10 each or is the 10 split up? The protection from arrows gave 40 points that it absorbs, do both the druid and wolf get 40 points or is that number split between the two?

thanks

the spell is in effect once on the druid, once on his ac. there's no splitting involved. the rules (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/classes/druid.htm#shareSpells) don't say anything about it so I'm not sure where that's coming from.

also protection from arrows does not work that way (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/spells/protectionFromArrows.htm) did you maybe look it up on dandwiki? that site's all terrible homebrew with the same names as core material, so look stuff from core up on the srd instead. prot from arrows gives dr to the druid and the wolf. period.

So copied from the PH and your link to srd: "At the druid’s option, she may have any spell (but not any spell-like ability) she casts upon herself also affect her animal companion" If the spell he cast is cure mod wounds, and he rolls 10 points of healing, does the druid get 10 and the wolf get 10 or is it 5 and 5?

The Protection from arrows description "once the spell prevented a total of 10 pts of damage per caster level it is discharged" He is 4th level so the spell will absorb 40 points. does the druid and wolf share the 40 or do they each have 40 points to be absorbed?

does that clear up what i'm asking?

You roll twice. The druid gets 2d8+cl, and the animal companion gets 2d8+cl. you literally do everything to the animal like you'd just cast the spell again on him but it takes effect at the same time. there is no splitting of anything.

the druid has dr 10 til he takes 40 damage. the animal has dr 10 til he takes 40 points of damage. again, there's no splitting or halving involved as you can see from the text under share spells. this is true for all spells and does not change on a case by case basis.

With Share Spell, the spell is effectively cast twice, once on the Druid and once on the wolf, so a cure spell would heal the druid for 1D10, and then the wolf for 1D10, they wouldn't share the same amount of healing, but both would be healed.

The same applies to the Protection from arrows. The spell is mirrored to the wolf, who is gains it's own 10pts of protection from arrows, separate from the Druids 10 points.
