I am myself aware of two alternate Wizard specialisations (sort of):

There's the Anagakok, which has a specialised unique list.

Then there is the Abyssal Specialist, which has a quite broad list of spells they are considered specialised in.

Because of all the nifty things that interact with specialised schools and the like, I would like to know if there are any other alternate wizard abilities that explicitly count as specialisation.
If you can think of ways to include more spells than intended under these umbrellas, even better.

The spell 'Touch of the Blackened Soul' (Dragon Magic) makes all spells evil. Theurgic Specialist makes the caster level of all specialist spells equal to the sum of caster levels in all classes implying that Theurge classes do something very significant.

A Changeling Wizard can specialize in both illusion and transmutation at the same time (RoE 123).

Focused Specialist? Ban an extra school, prepare one additional spell of your chosen school for each spell level.

Wizard of High Sorcery has enhanced specialization-give up an extra school, and get +1 to save DCs for your specialization, and +1 to saves against that school for spells and SLAs.

Knight of the ___ (thorn??) from dragonlance grants specialization in divination. Neat oddity in that you can be a specialized sorcerer.

There's a symbiote that auto-empowers all [evil] and [death] spells cast, at the cost of a bit of con damage. Also wouldn't that be a feat?

Incantatrix requires you to drop another school, and then specializes in Abjuration.

Ah yeah... Theurgic Specialist. Combine it with Master Spellthief and see your caster level soar (and this one actually works).

otoh, it stinks you can't really benefit from this as well if you are Good.

Master Spellthief is somewhat problematic to use in practice since it triggers off of spellcaster levels, implying that prestige classes advancing spellcasting do not contribute. To benefit, you need something like a spellthief 1/bard 1/beguiler 1/wizard 3/duskblade 1/wu-jen 1/warmage 1/dread master 1/Sublime chord 10 where master spellthief makes the caster level of every class 20 and Theurgic Specialist makes the caster level 180 in the specialist school. This isn't a great build though, since it has rather poor spell access.

For a more moderate but still high caster level with good spell access something like an Illumian[Krau] Beguiler 1/Wizard(Abyssal Specialist)/Ultimate Magus 10/Archmage 5 can have spell access as a Wizard 19/Beguiler 8 and caster level of Wizard 29/Beguiler 22/Abyssal 51 with all spells counting as abyssal.

Edit: The lack of a good alternative does really stand out.

warblade 1

Warblade grants arcane casting, now? :smallconfused:

I agree that the PrC thing is an ambiguity every table has to resolve on their own, though.

Unearthed Arcana offers both arcane domains (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/variant/classes/variantCharacterClasses.htm#wizardVariantDomainWiz ard) as an alternative to school specialization and alternate class features (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/variant/classes/specialistWizardVariants.htm) for specialists.

Elven Generalist (RotW), instead of a specialization you get +1 spell known per level and one extra slot of your highest level (moving up as you gain levels). Can also on higher levels trade familiar touch spells for improved familiar bonuses and can pick a ranged combat feat instead of a metamagic or item creation feat at level 5.

Gnome Illusionist (RoS), basically enhanced Illusion specialization.

Don't forget that UA/SRD also lists specialist variants, and PHB2 lists a similar specialization specific variant (trade familiar for a minor SLA).

Oops, fixed.

W.r.t. a good alternative, Hathran & Halruaan Elder can grant a high caster level on a good chassis. This is specialization compatible but not specialization related.
