So it's been a long time and there's only one gmr game left on the forums.

This is unacceptable.

So who wants to join me in a fantastical tale of nation states?

If so, please place your votes on what map we should make, and what nations you want to play.

For instance I want to play as Egypt.

Who's in!

It has been a while! I'm getting a bit burned out as a player but will be watching this game as a spectator for sure.

I'd certainly be down to get in on one of these from the beginning. I'd probably place a vote for Continents or Pangaea, just to keep everyone close to each other geographically.

I'm feeling a less burned out on GMRs now that I've had some time to take a break, apart from 14 of course.

I'd be up for a Continents map, playing either the Shoshone or Babylon [Babylon if and only if everyone has the DLC for it].
Just, let's not do another huge map, okay? That's much too large for my taste.

So, do we want to let this go for a little while longer or set up a smaller game?

Illven
2018-01-24, 09:39 PM
Do we want a four player game?

Techwarrior
2018-01-25, 12:02 AM
It's been three weeks since I first posted. I'm not sure how many more players we'll be able to get.

RayGallade
2018-01-25, 09:30 AM
I personally think six would be a stronger game, but if we can only get four I'm fine with getting this going.

Well, I've managed to convince my graphics card to run Civ V again (and Civ VI, even though it's not "supposed to" be able to meet requirements), so if you need someone, I'd be up for playing. Against the AI, I usually play random civilizations for variety's sake.

I might finally have a fighting chance as Liberty in my current game (Egypt, BNW, Deity level) where I was the second to hit Freedom (eight civilizations, fractal map, I think). I've never gotten this far at Deity level as Liberty before (of course, since Rome and Carthage have decided to put aside their differences and go after me, this might be early; on the other hand, I was able to Faith-buy Research Labs in all of my cities the turn that I hit the tech, so the "Oxford radio into Plastics" tech slingshot appears to be working).

That's probably too much about my game versus the AI.

So, yes, I'd be up for playing if you need someone to make six; I'll play any Civ, just let me play Civ!

Techwarrior

That brings the count up to 4 by my eye. Do we want to get started now then? Does anyone know of anyone that might want to join?

Illven

5, I'll ask nerd-o-rama if they want to join.

I do have Babylon, and would like to play as the Maya.

I have the Babylon DLC.

Let me try the "high-roll" attempt with Spain, please.

Babylon is fine.

Eh, let's make this an even 6. Sign me up for more in-character shenanigans. Continents is good for map type, civ-wise I'll take the Inca (which I'm assuming everyone has at this point).

Here's hoping my motherboard doesn't die this time around :smalltongue:

Here. In the ancient years of 4000 AD. Do we come upon the ancient Ninaians.

Master wonder builders. We shall soon see the construction of their first settlement near the forest of cocoa plants.

Inbetween the harsh desert and harsher tundra do they make their home. Ninatopia!

Took my turn. Forgot to grab shots though. I'll have to do a spectator update in a turn or three.

It was the best of times, it was the worst of times...

So began a book about two civilizations that don't exist in this world.

Here in Babylon, it is just the best of times as our people finally, after years of exile, have constructed a wonderful city from which we shall one day rule the world.

(Unfortunately, this world leader is still trying to figure out how to place pictures from imgur here on GitP, so while images exist, they are not yet here)

Suffice to say, our people have found a lush rainforest from which our people shall find wondrous citrus fruits and beautiful dyes in the nearby woodlands. Our great city is founded upon a rushing river. Our first priority in research is to develop the means of writing so that we might commit history to paper, even as we begin to scout the land for further settlements.

Shame we're already at 1 AI player at the start, but not much we can do about now I suppose.

I'll start the first spectator update in a couple of turns, because there isn't much to show at this point in the game. That's why I'm not doing a turn 1 update. Definitely not because I'd forgotten what key Steam's screenshot function was bound to.

Yes, fellow flesh beings, the Polish AI has been displaced by a 100% organic human regime. Three cheers for meat!

https://i.imgur.com/WVfEoFB.png

Looks like a decent start, nothing bungled by the AI so far (though I did have to switch it off worker production; we can't build improvements on any of those resources yet, AI, thanks). Salt is good, ocean access is good, decent spread of resources. Not being on the river is too bad, and the lakes aren't great, but it'll do.

"I am chieftain Nina of the Ninaioans." The oral tale goes.

https://i.imgur.com/eUPsQYI.jpg
https://i.imgur.com/Ql58IYP.jpg

The scouts tell us that we are not alone in the world. They have found markings of another tribe although first contact was not made.

https://i.imgur.com/tTx6zuh.jpg

Meanwhile our warriors stumbled upon a find.

https://i.imgur.com/LLHIInt.jpg

The treasures of another empire. In the ruins, they found symbols etched in the stonework. Of a great wheel. Two of the four symbols were recognized. They tell tale of Fire and the water. The other two we do not recongize. They are a small circular object, and a few lines that curve at the end.

https://i.imgur.com/20kxV17.jpg

In addition our warriors also spotted signs of another tribe.... Could this be the fallen empire?

https://i.imgur.com/R1dqVEM.jpg

And so does Ninatopia lie in wait. Knowing that we are not alone.

Ilven, I had to revert the last turn. GMR wasn't letting me upload my save. Sorry for any inconvenience.

Hail Polish people! We hope you will welcome us into both your lands, and your hearts. Lord Pacal wishes to discuss the settling of this great land with you at your earliest convenience.

http://i1070.photobucket.com/albums/u482/Techmastery/20180217191448_1_zps0ruazudv.jpg

Our great city. It's kinda sad that we're surrounded by jungle, and that we have the coast so close, yet still so far. It'll do though, we can take the pantheon belief for gems, and that'll get us an early religion.

http://i1070.photobucket.com/albums/u482/Techmastery/20180217191444_1_zpsxueuegwg.jpg

Looks like Bird of Purgatory is directly to the south of us, we'll have to see how that develops, but I don't like it already.

Greetings travelers. Peace and health to you. I am Nebuchadnezzar, king of Babylon. May our two nations have a prosperous relationship over the years.

My wise men suggest that your lands likely lie to the south of ours. Hopefully we can be good neighbors.

Greetings from the land to the south. I'm Chieftain Nina of the Egyptains. Also known as the Ninoians. We too wish for peace to reign between our two peoples.

Do you know of any others? We know of two minor nations to the world already. Although we have reason to believe you know of one already.

Well, managed to get the screenshots up and running, so here we are.

"I still remember the day when the Sapa Inca Pachacuti took the throne. He strode from the palace, his crown shining like the sun and spoke to us all. He told us that the time for hiding within our walls was long past. That it was time for the Inca to leave the shadows, to go forth to wherever the sun's rays fell, for the time of our ascendancy had begun. It seemed the very earth itself trembled at his word, and we fell to our knees before him. He then raised his hands and with a single word bade us go forth. So our scouting parties ran, through the hills, through the jungles and across the rivers, assembling a map of the lands as they went."

(Not that much to talk about as of yet. Cuzco's location isn't ideal, but there's some decent expansion potential to the north-east. In the west, Kilimanjaro being nearby is a nice stroke of luck, as it has some good synergy with the Incan hill bonus).

RayGallade

We have only met one minor nation as of yet, but we believe there to be another one just north of our capital. Our scouts report signs of habitation, particularly etched carvings that seem to resemble requests for them to "stay off the grass"."

Our scouts report news. A member of the Polish clan was spotted to our west.

Map of the lands
https://steamuserimages-a.akamaihd.net/ugc/921421499993380167/F1D5C76D75B20F0DA792C29379286B3CD0CC7ECF/

(no culture policies to talk about as of yet, although given that this is a small map Liberty's less effective than normal, so it's pretty just Tradition or Honour).

Fun fact: on quick games, the faith threshold needed to found the first pantheon is less than the amount of faith you get for being the first to meet a religious city state. Or, to put it another way: I am the one who lucksacked into tears of the gods.
On the subject of other people lucking out, just north of those flood plains at the top of the screenshot is Lake Victoria. Shishnarfne (whose spearmen is also in that screnshot) found it beofre I did, which leads me to suspect he's nearer it than I am, and therefore is likely to beat me too it in a settler race.
Shishnarfne is also playing as Spain.

This may end-up being an 'eventful' early game. Particularly since, while I haven't quite got Pachacuti's characters nailed-down yet, I don't think he's quite the 'live-and-let-live' type of person.

Also, as per usual, I am open to questions and comments from spectators if you have any, although if you do I'd ask you put them in spoiler tags (or PM me, if you're worried about clogging the thread).

The illustrious city of Ileria. We're going to start expanding early, because whether we like it or not, the pickings for land is pretty slim.

To the east of us we have a few city states. The first picture is where we are planning to settle immediately. We're aiming for one hex east of the scout.
