Can Small Races Ride the Hound Of Ill Omen

I have a halfling shadow sorcerer who’s about to turn level 6 and I’m kind of curious if there’s anything that prevents me from using the hound as a mount.

It appears so, though attempting to do so timing-wise seems a bit tricky... and since it can only move towards its target it doesn’t grant a whole lot of utility. A light foot Halfling could also hide behind it

i would say that, at least by default, the hound is not really under your (or anyone's) control. you give it a target, and then it does what it wants to attack that target.

so... could you sit on its back and be dragged around everywhere it goes? i would say yes. but you're not going to get anything more than that.
