The Twin Archers Casino and Bar

Along the main street of the Town a new building opens up. Its large gold encrusted sign proclaims that it is the Twin Archers Casino and Bar. Inside the building is split into three areas:

The Lobby and Lounge

Once you enter the large double doors at the front of the building, you will enter the Lobby. It is a large open space with a few cushioned benches and a fountain bubbling away in the center. Through an archway to the right is the Lounge, with a fully stocked bar and plenty of tables and comfy chairs to sit in. In the corner is a small stage with a microphone stand on it. Performers of all sorts are welcome to take the stage and entertain the people in the lounge. A large screen behind the bar often projects different sporting events, particularly races and tests of skill that can be bet on by the lounge patrons.

The Casino

Through a set of double doors leading from the lobby is the Casino. Inside are a bunch of felt covered tables tended by dealers who will gladly run any card or dice game you can think of.

Slot machines are found against the back wall of the Casino. They take single coins. Roll a d100, and if you land on a multiple of 10 you double your money. land on 1, 50, or 100 and get ten times back. Roll the number 7 and get a jackpot of 1000gp. Any other number is a loss.

The doors open, and Shabal steps into the Lobby, looking surprised at the building's size. Glancing at the fountain, chairs, and stage, he takes a few moments puzzling out what the building could possibly be meant for, and his eyes light up when he discovers its intention.
The orc's face breaks into a wide grin. "About time..."

[Artemis97]

A few of the Dealers smile and greet the orc. "Welcome."

[Shabal]

He nods absently to the dealers. "Morning."
He hangs up his coat and knapsack, dropping his purse into one of his pockets, and opens the doors to the Casino.

[Artemis97]

Bright lights and plush carpeting come into view. Tapastried walls and dark rich wooden tables lined with that classic green felt. It's a casino alright.

[Shabal]

The orc's grin grows more excited, and he looks around for any blackjack tables, or any with games already in progress.

[Artemis97]

There's an open spot at a BlackJack table to his left. Just give me some times to find a deck of cards.

[Shabal]

Shabal stands behind the table and watches the cards being dealt, adding up the totals in his head. He's in a position where the dealer probably won't notice him, and if he does, he'll still look pretty inconspicuous.
Once the number of low cards becomes much lower than the number of high cards, he jumps in with a bet much higher than the minimum for the table.

*gasp* Card counting in my casino? Good work. Too bad I'm starting with a fresh deck.:smallsmile:

Shabal looks over the cards, scanning the other players' cards as well, and then looks at the dealer almost casually. "Hit me."
If anyone could see into Shabal's shoes, they would find his toes rapidly adding up totals.

Shabal gets a Jack fo hearts.

He grins and lays his cards down on the table. "Stand."
He watches all the other players and their cards as he waits.

Player two splits his hand and starts adding cards to the ten. 3c 7d- 20

Dealer turns over the down card Kc Qc- 20 Hits 4d Bust

A gambler carrying 100gp walks over to the blackjack table. He puts down a bet of 5gp for the next deal.

The pot gets split between Shabal and player three. Shabal wins 15gp. Player three gets up and leaves.

[Shabal]

Shabal looks a little confused as to why the dealer would hit on 20, but shrugs and collects his winnings with a grin as he scans the cards the other players have been dealt.

[Scatman]

Kling walked in, hearing that there was a new bar.And if theres a bar, theres alchahol.And Kling loves alchahol.He ordered 36 ales, drinking them all within a few minutes.

[Artemis97]

The bartender gladly serves him the ales. On the big screen behind the bar a baseball game is playing. Calimport vs. Chult. Calimport's leading one to nothing.

In the casino the next hands are dealt.

[Scatman]

He barfs on the bar, and several stools and chairs nearby."Anoha!"

[Vhaidara]

BK walks in.
Deal me in for the next game.

[Admiral_Kelly]

Fourteen? Wouldn't hurt to take at least one more card. "Hit me."

[Shabal]

Shabal's grin gets wider, as he scans the other players' cards and looks up at the dealer. "Split, and hit both hands."

After drinking 37 ales, Kling falls onto the floor KOed.He shortly wakes up, and crawls out.

The orc briefly adds some totals, glancing up at the other players, and tosses down the absolute minimum bet for the table.

The dealer shuffles the deck and lays out the cards.

Shabal sighs and pushes his money towards the dealer, waiting for the next hand to be dealt.

Luck had definitely turned against him once more. He starts wishing he could change his luck.

BK gets up and leaves, taking the 30 gold with him.

[Me.]

Li enters the lobby and decides to go into the lounge. When in there he pulls out a pan flute, goes onto the stage, and begins to play a soft melody. The song entrances most of the audience in it's beautiful tune.

[Artemis97]

The people sitting around the lounge clap quietly in response to the music. the screen behind the bar now shows a tennis match.

[Shabal]

Shabal collects his winnings with a grin, puts them in his pocket, and heads back into the lounge.

[Me.]

Li continues to play, closing his eyes, then next to him appears a man made out of what seems to be wind, then an entire band and two dancers join in, the band playing the melody and the dancers dancing on the stage. In the band is a flute, a violin, a harp, a lyre, and a drum set with bells, cymbals, and a gong. All of this is made out of wind.

[Shabal]

The orc watches, looking both highly entertained and amazed.

[Me.]

As Li continues to play, a thick, blue, fog covers the stage. The fog heavily smells of incense, then, creatures made out of the fog spread through the room. Mermaids swim through the air, dragon's soar up to the top of the ceiling and breathe down the fog, and countless other creatures go around the room but cause no harm. Then out from the stage come lights of all colors, and a voice seems to come from Li, though he is still playing the pan flute, and speaks in a different language that no one seems to know.

Though the words are unknown, it is very pleasant and comforting.

[Shabal]

He continues watching the show intently, taking a seat on one of the plush benches and lying back against the wall.

[Me.]

After a little more playing, Li opens his eyes and all the smoke, the band, the chanting, the creatures, and the lights fade away. All that remains is a large dragon made of wind, curling around Li. Li continues to play the last note for a while before he stops{The dragon is blown away like sand in the wind}. Suddenly, there's five Li's, then, they all turn into a hundred white doves which fly off, and when they all reach the ceiling, they turn into a shower of blue, sparkling, lights. Then a voice from Shabal's right asks,
"So, what do you think?"

[Shabal]

Shabal nods, nearly mesmerized, and turns to Li. "Clever."

[Me.]

Li nods thanks to Shabal and says
"Just a little trick my grandpa taught me. Only thing is, I didn't do that dragon, I don't know how it got there."
At this Li rubs his chin in thought.

[Shabal]

Not knowing about the details of wind magic and dragons, Shabal merely nods curiously.
"Odd.
Been into the Casino yet?"
He seems to be thoroughly enjoying himself.

[Me.]

Li seems to come back from the world of deep thought and says,
"No, I don't like gambling and what not. I think I'm going to go get a drink."
Li then walks over to the bar and asks for some mead.

[Shabal]

He shrugs and, feeling thirsty, follows. "Suit yourself. Might not be the most desirable practice, but I spent the past five or so years doing it for a living..."

[Me.]

Li shrugs and says,
"Well, I just don't like gambling with real money, with chips or something I'm fine. Plus, I've never been that good at it, I suppose with practice I'll get better, It's just most people play with real money so..."

[Shabal]

"S'fairly easy once you put your mind to it; started off as a hobby for me, but I found out it'd be useful for making money later on in life. See, the key is to play as conservatively as you can and practice so you barely lose any money while still learning how to play the game."

[Me.]

Li nods thoughtfully and asks,
"So, how'd it go with that guy who wanted to become a god?"

[Shabal]

"Oh, I just asked him a few questions, and he answered. Nothing much else, just wanted to know how he standed on the killing of innocents."

[Me.]

"Huh, well. Hey, have you ever been to my shop?

[Shabal]

"Don't think I have...what do you sell?" He looks curious.

[Me.]

"Oh, just different rare and powerful items, mind you, they will cost allot of money."

[Xerillum]

Three big, strong men walk into the lobby. They walk up to the desk, and draw handguns. This is our town, and we don't take kindly to new casinos. You're gonna have to make a... donation. 10% okay?

To emphasize his point, a red dot hits the man's chest.

[Me.]

Li looks at the man with great interest and a hand reaches down to his kunai.

[Xerillum]

The dot moves to Li.

[Artemis97]

"But...but the owner's not going to like this. She really won't. And...And you don't want to mess with her." the deskman stammers.

[Xerillum]

Our organization doesn't care what the owner says. Give us, say... 20,000 platinum, and we won't blow this thing to pieces.

[Artemis97]

"We don't have 20,000 platinum, we just opened today! Please, be reasonable." The man begs.

[Xerillum]

We need our money. We mean business.

The men fire at the man. A high velocity sniper round flies at the man's chest.

[Me.]

With lightning reflexes Li makes a shield around the desk clerk, he then turns to the men that shot and says in a cool, collective voice,
"I'm afraid sir, that I must insist that you leave or simply bring this matter to the owner. By the by, why must they pay you money and why that amount?"
Li is now firmly grasping his kunai.

[Xerillum]

A second sniper round flies at Li.

That's none of your business.

[Me.]

Li, just in time, creates another shield around himself and responds, in the exact same voice as before,
"Ah, but I'm afraid it is, for you see, I am a citizen of this town, am I not? As such, I have the right to know about anything or anyone in this Town. Besides, if you're going to kill me, I should at least get a death wish."

[Xerillum]

They owe us money. That's all you need to know.

The men leave.

[Me.]

Li removes the shields, puts his kunai back, and turns to Shabal,
"Well that was odd. I wonder what that was all about."

[Shabal]

Shabal conveniently returns from his unannounced deadtime just as the action ends. "What what was all about?" He asks, confused.

[Me.]

Li looks at Shabal, not noticing he went into deadtime and explains,
"Three men walked in and asked the desk clerk for 20,000 platinum, so I asked them why they needed it, but they wouldn't say, and then they left."
((Tsk tsk tsk, going into deadtime unannounced.))

[Shabal]

((Dinner and computer problems, it was unavoidable. :smalltongue:))
"Huh. They just asked?"
He frowns and orders a drink, glancing around at the bar.

[Artemis97]

"M..more like demanded. They had guns and everything!" The clerk tells him.

[Me.]

"Yeah..." says Li drawing out the word.
Li then walks over to the desk clerk and asks if he's O.K. and if he knew what that was all about.

[Artemis97]

"I'll be fine, but I've never heard of them before. We just opened yesterday, why would they start making demands like that?"

[Shabal]

Shabal pauses, frowning. "That sounds serious...I mean, the place seems like it would be an easy target. You have security, right?"

[Me.]

Li nods in agreement then deadtimes.

[Artemis97]

The man shakes his head. "Security? No, the Mistress hasn't hired any security."

[Shabal]

He sighs. "Well, I might be able to get some officers on duty here at least...the place seems like a sitting duck for a simple theft."
He pauses. "Mistress?"

[Artemis97]

The man nods. "Mistress Artemis, she owns this place."

[Shabal]

The orc nods and takes a sip of his drink. "Alright. Did they actually state their name or organization while they were demanding the money?"

[Artemis97]

The clerk shakes his head. "No, they didn't."

[Shabal]

"And they just left?" Shabal asks with a raised eyebrow.

[Artemis97]

The desk clerk nods.

[Shabal]

"A'right." He pays for the drink and heads back into the casino, looking for a poker game.
At least now I have an excuse to spend some time here...

[Xerillum]

There is a bullet sticking out of the desk. It is stamped with the words: Prop. Stiletto Guild.

[Me.]

Li undeatimes, looks around, and shakes his head. He then gets up groggily and murmurs to himself. Then he looks at his back, nothing, he then sits back down and continues to drink his mead.

[Me.]

Li decides to go into the Lobby and sit for awhile. When in there he still feels very sick. He grabs his stomach and moans a bit, then his head burns and he continues to moan, not knowing what is happening.

[Me.]

Li then heads to Trog's in hope that a good drink might help.

[Artemis97]

Artemis appears at the bar. Without being being told the bartender whips up her favorite cocktail and serves it to her.

[Shabal]

The orc finishes whatever gambling he's been focused on since the night before, and heads back into the Lounge, sitting on one of the benches and watching the fountain.

[Artemis97]

Artemis glances at the bartender then to the orc. The bartender busies himself behind the bar and then brings a frosty mug of ale to Shabal.

[Shabal]

The orc takes the mug with a satisfied grin and tips the bartender, then looks around the bar for where it might have come from.

[Artemis97]

The bartender refuses the tip. "It's on the house." He insists before quickly moving away.

At the bar, Artemis watches the entire exchange.

[Shabal]

He shrugs, glancing between the bartender and the drink, and then resumes watching the fountain, taking a sip every so often.

[Artemis97]

Artemis looks to the bartender, giving him a small nod in recognition of his good work.

[Shabal]

Finishing the ale, the orc trots over to the bar and deposits the empty mug on the bartop, nodding to the bartender. "Thanks."

[Artemis97]

"You are quite welcome." Artemis replies for the bartender. "We like to take care of our patrons."

[Shabal]

He nods to Artemis with a smile. "I'd noticed.
You're employed here?"

[Dizzle]

A dreadlocked man in his thirties, dressed in dark colours, appears out of nowhere. Magical energy crackles off him. He looks around startled.

Where am I? Someone, tell me, what is this place?

[Artemis97]

She laughs. "No, I'm the employer here." Artemis raises an eyebrow at the dreadlocked man. "You're in my Casino."

[Dizzle]

He grins slightly, then the look of acute panic returns to him.

"Tell me, how can I get to Trog's Tavern from here? It is most urgent, my friends are under attack"

[Artemis97]

The goddess doesn't look pleased. "You're not staying? Hmph fine, just go out the front doors there and you'll be back on the streets."

[Shabal]

"Oh, ah. You're the 'mistress' I heard about." He looks at his surroundings with a grin. "I can't thank you enough for building this place."

[Dizzle]

Thank you.

He pauses just before leaving, looking around.

If I survive, i'll be right back here, you have my word

Then dashes into the street

[Artemis97]

"You had better." Artemis laughs wickedly and the mage might find that he had a fluffy white rabbit's tail.

[Raistlin1040]

Chazz teleports into the casino. He's not wearing his blindfold, so it's impossible to tell he's blind. He sits down at a blackjack table and smiles. He digs a huge diamond out of a pocket and puts it down.

[Artemis97]

Artemis walks out of the lounge and steps into the Casino, pausing by Chazz's table. "That's a rather large bet."

[Raistlin1040]

For me, it's pocket change.

[Artemis97]

Artemis waves the dealer away from the table, taking her place. She picks up the deck and shuffles it in a series of quick movements. "But you haven't even recieved your cards yet."

((Shall I actually deal out a game?))

[Raistlin1040]

((Not unless she's actively using magic on the cards. Chazz is..."Lucky" if you catch my drift. He never loses, unless someone cheats.))

So. I enjoy a wager.

[Artemis97]

Artemis deals out the cards. Chazz recieves an Ace of Spades and a Jack of Clubs.

She blinks. "Blackjack."

[Raistlin1040]

He smiles.

((G2G. Be back in 30 minutes.))

[Artemis97]

Artemis studies the man in front of her. He couldn't have cheated. She had dealt the cards herself. With a shrug she tells the dealer. "Pay the man."

[Raistlin1040]

((For the record, it's not cheating. He just never loses.))

He smiles and collects his winnings, and then pulls out a beautiful golden necklace, set with brilliant rubies, emeralds, and saphires and inlaid with a silver chain. He sets it on the table, waiting for another hand.

[Artemis97]

"Oooh...That's gorgeous." Artemis admires the necklace. Then she gets an idea. "Would you mind playing a different game?"

[Raistlin1040]

He shakes his head no.

What did you have in mind?

[Artemis97]

"An archery contest." That should even the odds a little bit. She never loses those either.

[Raistlin1040]

As you wish.

He flicks his hand and a bow fitted with a quiver appears in his hand.

[Artemis97]

With a wave of her hand the tables dissappear and a pair of archery targets are summoned to the far side of the room.

[Raistlin1040]

Chazz gestures in the direction of the targets.

Ladies first. I insist.

[Artemis97]

"As you wish" A bow and a single arrow appear in her hands. She pulls it back to it's full draw and looses the arrow. It hits the target, dead center.

[Raistlin1040]

He nods.

Nice shot.

He pulls back the bowstring, and lets an arrow fly. It also hits dead center, but the arrowhead makes a hole in the target, imbedding the arrow in the center.

[Artemis97]

Artemis' mouth drops open and she collapses into a chair that happend to be sitting behind her. "You won?"

[Shabal]

Shabal returns to the Blackjack tables, probably winning more than he loses. Every once in a while he wanders over to a poker game, but he seems to avoid the games that rely solely on chance.

[Raistlin1040]

He shrugs.

Keep the necklace if you want. It doesn't really match my eyes anyway.

[Artemis97]

Artemis picks up the necklace and watcvhes the light play off the stones while she thinks. "But you've won our contest, you deserve some sort of reward."

[Raistlin1040]

I require no reward...actually there is something you could do. It's a bit of a task though, so feel free to decline.

[Artemis97]

As if he could do anything if she declined. "What is this task you speak of?"

[Raistlin1040]

Tell me, how much do you know about the diety Ekrath?

[Artemis97]

"Nothing." she replies simply.

[Raistlin1040]

Fair enough. He was a close friend of mine. As you may know, dieties are not supposed to attack other dieties, for fear of a pantheon war. However, Ekrath was killed by Nerull. I need someone to help me sway the pantheon to allow him to return to life.

((Btw, is this goddess-Artemis or some other artemis?))

[Vhaidara]

(If Shadowbow ever returns, which is unlikely, he'll help. He'll be a demigod if he does, having taken some of Slishhtak's divinity.)

[Artemis97]

((Artemis, Greek Goddess of the Hunt. Although, I possess her from time to time, whenever she speaks in Bold))

"I doubt I will be able to do much for you." the goddess admits.

[Raistlin1040]

Perhaps, but you have status. As amazing my powers are, they are mortal. Your divinity holds a power I can only hope to obtain.

"I will see what I can do. Is there anything else you could ask for?"

[Raistlin1040]

Nothing comes to mind. Have a nice day.

A gust of wind hits him and he vanishes.

[Artemis97]

And Artemis is left to consider how the wind blew indoors. With a shrugs she walks back to the bar, admiring her new necklace.

The door to the lobby opens from the streets, and a warforged with blue crystal eyes steps inside. He scans the room for assistance.

[Artemis97]

He'll likely see Artemis sitting in the lounge admiring a necklace.

[Xssar]

*Whump. Whump. Whump.*

He plods into the lounge and stands not to far away.
Uhm... excuse me, ma'am, but I've been told that I might be able to acquire a job here. Are you in need of any bouncers or security guards here?

[Artemis97]

She looks the warforged up and down. "We were attacked recently... and I'm sure they'll be back again before long. Alright, sure, consider yourself hired."

[Xssar]

The warforged, despite being able to show facial expression, looks surprised.
Why thank you! I thought there would be more discussion and what-not, but I'm happy. I am Ash, just so you know.
He gives a polite nod.

[Artemis97]

"And I am Artemis, your new employer. Do your job well, and I will reward you. Displease me, and I will turn you back into the tree from which you were made." The goddess promises with a wicked grin.

[Xssar]

Ash's look of surprise doesn't vanish.
I... I'll do my best, Miss Artemis. Just so you know, you don't need to reward me really, unless you can offer something other than money.

[Artemis97]

Artemis raises an eyebrow. "What did you have in mind?"

[Xssar]

Nothing in particular - just something that might interest me. I have no use for money particularly.
He gives a slight shrugging motion, his joints creaking a little as he does so.
Don't worry, I'm happy to work for free. he adds.

[Artemis97]

She nods. "Good, I don't need this place to lose any more money."

[Xssar]

Is this place not doing so well profit-wise, then? he asks.

[Artemis97]

"Well the Townspeople come, some win, most lose, but a the other night a man came in here, he placed some rather large bets and never lost." She doesn't sound happy about it. "He let me keep this necklace, but by all rights he should have taken it along with the rest of his winnings."

[Vhaidara]

A large bag of adamantine coins appears. E's got a trigger contingency to save failing businesses.

(Motive for guild robbery, check.)

[Xssar]

So in short, he cheated?
Ash gives a low 'hmm' which shakes the whole room very slightly.

[Artemis97]

Artemis shakes her head. "I don't see how, I was the one dealing the cards." Seeing the bag of adamantine appear she waves her hand sending it to the Casino's vault. "A donation...how nice."

[Xssar]

He emits another 'hmm'.
If he comes in again, point him out to me. I'm good at picking up on that sort of thing...
Those crystalline eyes aren't just for show... they're good at spotting all sorts of things, including magic.

[Artemis97]

"I will do that. Maybe I should simply keep him out of the Casino? It is my business after all."

[Xssar]

That may just encourage him to swindle your barstaff instead, he says, thoughtfully, I'd either keep him out of the whole establishment, or find out how he is cheating and perhaps sue.

[Artemis97]

"No..If he were cheating I will make sure he pays. Sueing him would not be enough for me." Apparently she has something else in mind.

[Xssar]

Oh, I'm sure I can make him pay in... other ways.
He tightens his hands into fists, and they make a satisfying scraping sound of metal on metal.

[Artemis97]

Artemis smiles. "Good. Very good." another thought comes into her head. "Tell me, are you bullet proof?"

[Xssar]

Slot machines would be against the back wall of the Casino. They take single coins. Roll a d100, and if you land on a multiple of 10 you double your money. land on 1, 50, or 100 and get ten times back. Roll the number 7 and get a jackpot of 1000gp. Any other number is a loss.

The air elementals simply blow right through the door. Artemis sighs. "Can you imagine how long it will take to pick up all these cards?"

The roof..is a roof. It's only a one story building, there isn't much need for anything to be put up there.

Then they crash through the doors. "Oh...that's going to take some time to repair." Artemis stands back and watches the destruction. The dealers and casino goers run away, screaming. And there's now a nice hole in the roof.

Artemis turns and smiles. "Ah, good so you did come back. I was hoping you might."

"If you like." A nearby card table is quickly cleared as she approaches and takes a seat. Artemis picks up the deck and begins to play with it, waiting for Gennun to join her.
