Kind of a piggyback off of this thread (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?544471-The-Ultimate-Explorer) I made the other day. Beyond roleplay fluff, are there real tangible benefits to picking a deity when you don't really need to?
In the example thread, I have for an explorer character a Ranger/Wizard/Arcane Archer setup. As someone who basically lives to travel the world and beyond, devoting their powers to survival and exploration, a deity like Desna would be pretty fitting for that character. I could easily imagine that character being a follower, or just someone who honors that particular deity. Nonetheless I can see myself just writing "Desna" on the character sheet and calling it a day.
My question is, would there be a way to take advantage of that power-wise? Not just in that instance, but in general. Are there reasons to have your character worship a deity that doesn't involve having to be a cleric or whatnot?
