To be specific, I'm looking for optimal races to lead into the Soul Eater prestige class from the Book of Vile Darkness.

It requires a living non-humanoid, although monstrous humanoids are permitted. The class revolves around touch attacks and requires the Weapon Focus (Claw/Natural Weapon) feat as a pre-requisite.

It also requires BAB +5, so ideally a monster that contributes to that.

The real kicker is the level 10 bonus that the class provides - "any and all spell-like or supernatural abilities the soul eater possesses may be used twice as often as normal." So the ultimate choice is going to be a race that has an inborn (Sp) or (Su) ability with uses, or the ability to acquire a template that provides them later on.

Thanks so much for your suggestions!

The tauric template would like a word.

Poison Dusk Lizardfolk (MM3) are monstrous humanoid and have claw/claw/bite.

Tibbit (Dragon Compendium) CE Soulborn in cat form would be amusing. Monstrous humanoid with claw/claw/bite at full Strength.

Yak Folk (MM2) have some very quirky Sp/Su/Ex abilities. You can give them claws with Dragontouched/Claws of the Wyrm soulmeld, Feral template, or Draconic template.

Half-Fey Unseelie Fey Arctic Magic-Blooded Whisper Gnome - Fey, LA +2
SLAs:
Charm Person, at will
Detect Magic, 1/day
Ghost Sound, 1/day
Faerie Fire –or– Glitterdust, 1/day
Hypnotism, 1/day
Mage Hand, 1/day
Message, 1/day
Nystul's Magic Aura, 1/day
Nystul's Undetectable Aura, 1/day
Ray of Frost, 1/day
Read Magic, 1/day
Silence (self only), 1/day
(and it's - just at 1st level, you will get more from the Half-Fey template)
Su:
Autumn Harvest - works like touch-range targeted dispel, (1 + Cha mod.)/day

For natural weapon - isn't Unarmed Strike good enough?
If not, then how about to write the Curse of the Demon Claw (Champions of Ruin) into your backstory?

With the web enhancement, a dragonwrought kobold is a 0RHD LA0 non-humanoid with claw/claw/bite. Then just take five levels of full BAB classes.

Daelkyr Halfblood is an aberration with a claw ready from level 1, with the option to gain some other natural attacks with increasing level. You might consider a level of Battle Dancer for more natural attacks via unarmed strike. If you get into the aberration blood line of feats, deepspawn adds two tentacles.

The class doesn't mention that the supernatural or SLAs have to be ones derived from race. Class derived abilities can also be used.

In eberron, the aberrant dragonmark feat counts as aberration blood. According to a web article but I am too lazy to Google
