Looking into the possibility of a halfling cavalier, and like others before me, I wouldn't mind being able to rely more on dex than str while still keeping the mounted damage potential and reach of a lance. I've been poking around google for a while now, and it doesn't really look like there's a way to make it work that doesn't rely on DM fiat (spear dancing style seems to sacrifice reach on charges, in addition to just being a massive feat sink), but I thought I'd check in with the playground and see if anyone knows any tricks I've missed.

Failing any first party material, does anyone know a way to do it via 3.5 or 3rd-party material?

Yes, in Path of War, the Polearm Dancer (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/path-of-war/feats/polearm-dancer-combat/) feat will do what you want.

Ugh, I should have looked at Path of War to start with, I was already planning on asking the DM if Deadly Agility would be kosher.

Thanks! Though if anybody knows any other options, I'd welcome the knowledge.

I dont think lances are considered polearms...

A pole weapon or pole arm is a close combat weapon in which the main fighting part of the weapon is fitted to the end of a long shaft, typically of wood, thereby extending the user's effective range. Spears, glaives, poleaxes, halberds, and naginata are all varieties of pole arms

Lances do not fit that description.

It works. It specifies the weapon groups spears and polearms, and lances are in the spear group.

You can also do this in 1st-party via Spear Dancing Spiral.

I want to see someone two weapon fight with a lance now.

Isn't there also a weapon enchantment in Eberron that makes any melee weapon count as finesse? Air infusion or something?

In Ultimate Feats there a feat (funnily enough) that is called Accurate Attack. It makes you used Dex for a weapon instead of Str.

There's Effortless Lace (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/magic-items/magic-weapons/specific-magic-weapons/effortless-lace/) in Pathfinder.

That only works for 1H weapons though, which a lance (though it can be wielded in one hand) is not.

Lances inhereted the "can be wielded one handed while mounted" clause from 3.5. One can duel wield lances while mounted.

And a war lance is a big spear with a metal bladed or pointed tip and a handle brace so it doesn't slide back on impact. They very much meet the criteria of polearm.

Wooden tilting lances are DESIGNED to break without punching through armor. A war lance will punch through plate and chain with ease unless you can deflect the tip with your shield.

The Fighter's Finesse Advanced Weapon Training does it, too, in 1st-party.

Fighter’s Finesse (Ex) The fighter gains the benefits of the Weapon Finesse feat with all melee weapons that belong to the associated fighter weapon group (even if they cannot normally be used with Weapon Finesse). The fighter must have the Weapon Finesse feat before choosing this option.
