Very carefully :smallwink:

I assume the T-rex is completely untrained yes? Perhaps the goat on a rope technique? in any case, stay out of reach. For the arms that's pretty easy, but watch out for the teeth and tail.

It'll probably eat at least half a cow a day.

Agreed.

My google-fu tells me a t-rex would need up to 40,000 calories a day, and a whole cow would be about 66,000, give or take.

So yeah, depending on it's size and activity level, slightly more than half a cow every day.

.... isn't the internet one heck of a thing?

Otherwise you can give them a Goodberry

Have you seen Futurama where they have one of those coin machines full of pigs for the T-Rex at the zoo?

Just like that. Mind your fingers.

Here's a bizarre link that may answer your question; it goes into T-rex caloric needs and how people may satisfy them. XKCD seems to do decent research on their What Ifs, so this may convince your DM.

This would be the cheapest method! :smalltongue:

But i believe there are some rules for eating and creature size either in DMG or the Out of the Abyss storybook.

Well... the t-rex would probably eat the goodberry AND the person handing it to him... so, no problem there... maybe...

Heh. Reminds me of OOTS 923, panel 5 (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0923.html).

I'd feed him one elf wizard per day. As long as s/he gets regular exercise, that should make sure he stays good and healthy.

However, remember that most large reptilian predators, including T. Rex as far as we can tell, are adapted to eat massive quantities of food every once in a while. One herd of cows every few weeks rather than half a cow every day.

Also, given that modern birds of prey are the closest living relatives of Tyrannosaurids and are readily trainable, the same may be true of T. Rex...though probably with a technique adjustment.

So, my plan to feed a T. Rex without using magic would be to train it as a hunting companion, for large prey.

If you're a Druid, you count it as a class feature and keep all the XP for yourself.

Something else you could try is have the T-rex lie down and open his mouth then put a door in his mouth and put a sign up saying "Private Halflings club" and then get some halflings.

Some scientists now think T. Rex was a carrion eater.

So, find some zombies?
