Which skill would a character use to play a sport or game? whilst sports could be plugged into any number of physical skills, what about non-physcial games like chess, card games, and other games of skill.

Bluff would probably be useful for most card games, as would Sense Motive.

Probably an ability check vs. whatever ability or combination thereof seem most relevant. Something like chess is probably Int and Wis, something like soccer would be Dex and Con with a side of Int and Wis. How you'd average the abilities out if you didn't want to pick just one is a question. Perhaps opposed rolls on each and see who comes out best.

really, chess should be its own skill. In the Rokugan Campaign Setting, there is a games skill, IIRC it had subsets like Games (Shu-gi[sp?]), (Go), etc.

Good heavens no, I can't agree. Chess as a skill would make as much sense as Perform (dance [gavotte <13th-century French style>]).
