Curious to try out an hexblade crossbow user and wanted tips on how to make him as efficient an archer/crossbowman as possible, as in what mc dips to take, race, feats and such.

Were thinking vuman or half elf for race.

Curious to try out an hexblade crossbow user and wanted tips on how to make him as efficient an archer/crossbowman as possible, as in what mc dips to take, race, feats and such.

Use the v human bonus feat to pick up crossbow expert. Go blade pact and pick up the superior pact weapon and thirsting blade invocations, and you're golden. Anything else is seasoning.

Vhuman crossbow expert then sharpshooter on your next ASI.
Lvl 1: fighter 1 archery fighting style.
Lvl 2: warlock 1 hexblade
Lvl 3: fighter 2 action surge
Lvl 4-20: warlock. Here's where you'll have to make a choice. You can go pact of the blade, but won't be able to make a hand crossbow your pact weapon until you find a magical one, which could take a while. Alternatively you could take pact of the chain for a familiar to give you advantage on attacks. If you go pact of the chain you'll want to go to warrior lvl 6 to pick up extra attack and another ASI as you won't be able to take the thirsting blade invocation. Devil's sight is another good invocation to snipe people at long distances.
