It's name is Straylight. What is it and what powers does it have?

It is a magical prism that allows the user to appear to be in a location other than where they actually are.

Whenever I think named magic times I think swords. Usually artifact level ones, but not necessarily.

How about:

Straylight
(Requires attunement)
Longsword +3
- As an action, the wielder can cast each of the following spells once without component. This ability refreshed at dawn.
Moonbeam
Blur
Greater Invisibility
Prismatic Spray
- As a bonus action, the weapon can either emit bright light in a 10 ft radius and dim light in an additional 10 ft radius, or emit dim light in a 10 ft radius. This ability is negated by any spell that creates darkness.
- As a bonus action, the weapon can absorb light in a 10 ft radius, causing bright light to become dim light, and dim light to become darkness. This is normal darkness and can be seen through with Darkvision.

straylight:

a magical gem that emits dim light for 15 feet from the user. If gems are within that radius, a beam of light points from the item to the gem, allowing you to find "stray" gems by "light".

Is this thread just about Straylight, or is it a general random magic item discussion thread type thing, because if so, please tell me the function of the powerful ancient artifact known as the Greataxe of the Divine Squeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee eeeeeee!

+1 short bow
When attuned, the wielder may cast the Dancing Lights cantrip.

Also, once per rest, the wielder may activate the primary power of Straylight. For the next minute, any target hit by an arrow from Straylight is affected as if by the Faerie Fire spell until the end of the wielder’s next turn.

Straylight is a cursed everlasting torch.

This torch burns with an illusory flame that emits bright light out to 20' and dim light a further 20'. This light can only be blocked by covering the torch with an opaque material. Creatures using this light to follow a path, or travel in a specific direction suffer a -10 penalty to associated skill rolls.

A rod that gob the soul of it's last possessor.

It gained intelligence and tries to seek a powerful arcanist to replace it's lost master.

Could act as a magical rod of some sort with innate spellcasting abilities (and own initiative).

Stray light is a magical hooded lantern. Whenever you light it though the flames leap out from the lantern and starts hovering in the air around it. The magical flames will then fly around the area in a random manner, but they will never move farther than 30 feet away from the lantern. While the hood is down on the lantern the flames will dim. If you do something that would normally extinguish the flame were it to be inside of the lantern, than the floating flames will be extinguished despite not Bering inside the lantern.

It's just a marble that can change colors. As long as Strayl is 'ight, it's green. If Strayl isn't 'ight, it turns red.

OR

St. Raylight was a cleric artificer of old, and they had created an entire suit of magical armor etched in the runes and holy symbols of their deity for some reason that is lost to time. Many rumors abound of the reason it was created and speculate what would happen if all the pieces of the "straylight" were rejoined together, but the highest devotees of the same deity are honored to have and wield a piece of the Straylight armor, as in addition to being powerful magical objects, they also act as that deity's spellcasting focus.

Nice!!

I'll be using that if ya dont mind!

Perhaps even centering an additional light 10' radius of any normal gem, with possibilities of lighting up a whole cavern via chain effect; like pulling down the drapes to flood the Vampires bedroom with sunlight.

I had 2 thoughts for this...

1. A mirror of true seeing...

A small, unremarkable silver mirror. However, the reflection shown is that of what is truly there, not what you perceive.

So in the reflection, you would see invisible creatures, the true shape of a polymorph or you WOULDN'T see an illusion.

2. A magic lamp.

On the face of it, it's like any other lamp in that it casts bright light in a 15-foot radius and dim light for an additional 30 feet.*

However, in MAGICAL darkness it also illuminates the outline of the terrain and any creatures. Like they were affected by faerie fire, but perceivable to those within its radius out to 30'.

You CANNOT however, make out any surface details, colours, etc... Only outlines.
