Proficient with whatever type of armor (light, medium, or heavy) it is described as wearing, as well as all lighter types. Undead not indicated as wearing armor are not proficient with armor. Undead are proficient with shields if they are proficient with any form of armor.

Human Warrior Skeleton

15 (+1 Dex, +2 natural, +2 heavy steel shield), touch 11, flat-footed 14

So the above quotes suggest that human warrior skeletons have full armor proficiencies which means all skeletons are proficient with the armor they were wearing when they died? Or does it mean all skeletons are proficient with all armor since if they wear it, they are "described as wearing it".

Thats a good question . I would say average boners no but something bigger and meaner like a DM special skeleton knight yes .

The skeleton you quoted was a Hhuman warrior skeleton. It was proficient with armor in life, so it retains that proficiency in death. If it was a skeleton of a commoner, then it wouldn't have proficiency with armor, and thus no proficiency with shields.

Alright! Warrior skeletons are easy enough to grave dig for. Just needed to double check that humanoid skeletons can in fact have armor proficiencies, because a lot of threads online have claimed they don't.

In the absence of knowing what the creature's levels were in life, you assume Warrior, as I recall.

A skeleton made from a Human Commoner would be proficient with only 1 simple weapon, unless they were an Elf Commoner, in which case they'd have 1 simple weapon and the elf weapon proficiencies, and either way they'd have no armor proficiencies to begin with.

The exact details for armor proficiency were never properly addressed as I recall, which was an oversight. Ultimately whether the DM will rule for or against it will just boil down to how much of a hard ass they are.
