View Full Version : Verbal Component Correlation

2007-08-24, 05:24 PM
I bit off a bit more than I can chew for an upcoming campaign. I told the DM I would do a few lyrics from a song related to the spell for verbal components. However, I have been drawing a blank for the past three days, and I am stuck. So, would anyone care to try their hand at some Lyrical attachments?

Sample Format:
And the light of a fading star/
is what you were, is what you are.
Flogging Molly, The Light of a Fading Star.

The campaign is unlikely to get very high very fast, so I would prefer submissions for 0-3rd level spells.

Thanks to anyone who can help out.

Bear in mind you'd want to keep them all really short, as it's something you're supposed to be able to say, then move 30', in the span of six seconds.

I don't know about songs and lyrics, but I once played a wizard that had a penchant for talking in a rather unique way, so I wanted to make his spellcasting unique as well. I decided that for spells with a casting time of a standard action or less (and had a verbal component), I would utter a phrase with number of syllables equal to the level of the spell. (for 0-lvl spells, I simply said the name. "Ray of Frost"!) So a spell like 'Light' might be made into "Dhaene". And 'Fireball' might be "Kollo Nass". The words didn't matter, as long as they sounded cool and bizarre.

my wiz in one of the campaigns i've just started playing in has the feat nonverbal spell, which lets you make whatever noise you want as the verbal component. You can hum a ditty to charm someone pied piper style, scream until fireballs explode around you, or weave the spell suggestion into conversation. take that with the spell trick conceal magic, and people will wonder how you cast magic at all

Hhhmmm... This may not be what you mean:

Feather Fall
As a leaf in the breeze,
A spell I here seize,
Like the bird in the squall,
Let my friend Feather Fall!

Not the best, but I tried. :smallconfused:

This sounds like fun! Here's a few possibilities:

Floating disk:
"I'll never be your beast of burden
My back is broad but it's a hurting"
- Rolling Stones, Beast of Burden

Feather Fall:
"I'm light as a feather and bright as the moon"
- All About Eve, Light as a Feather

Sugar Ray, the eponymous song.

Endure Elements:
"It's too darn hot."
Cole Porter, Kiss Me Kate

"It doesn't matter which you heard
The holy or the broken Hallelujah"
Leonard Cohen, Hallelujah

Summon (anything):
"Call me (call me) on the line
Call me, call me any, anytime
Call me"
Blondie, Call Me.

"Colored lights can hypnotize
Sparkle someone else's eyes"
The Guess Who, American Woman

"Hell's foundations quiver at the shout of praise;
brothers, lift your voices, loud your anthems raise"
Sabine Baring-Gould and Arthur Sullivan, Onward Christian Soldiers

Remove Fear:
Be not afraid, be not alone
I have come to take you home.
hymn, Be Not Afraid.

Just a few possibilities. All the best with the campaign!

Do you have any prohibited schools? It would be kinda lame to come up with some songs for spells you can't even use.

That said...

"Purple (daze) all in my brain
Lately things just dont seem the same"

- Purple Haze, The Jimi Hendrix Experience

"Youre as cold as ice, youre willing to sacrifice our love
You never take advice, someday youll pay the price, I know"

- Cold as Ice, Foreigner

"I want to kiss you but I want it too
Much (too much)
I want to taste you but your lips
Are venomous poison
Youre poison running through my

- Poison, Alice Cooper

...and so on and so on. In fact, that sounds like a pretty fun idea for a light-hearted campaign.
