Welcome welcome!
You have finally arrived to the adventure. Times have been long and rough but your group has had their fair share of fortune. Quest after quest has proved fruitful but now it seems that you have grown enough to be needing a place to call home. You may not even be actively looking but that need calls to you in the back of your head. This brings you to Stonefast.

Stonefast was a dwarven stronghold on the fringes of human territory. It acted as a diplomatic center and as a trading outpost. During the Great Iuz Wars, Stonefast fell under siege and was almost obliterated. The hold did not fall, however, yet only a small handful of dwarves remained. They sealed their stronghold and returned to their kingdom, leaving untold riches behind.

Over the many years since then, Stonefast’s location has been lost and until recently has remained a mystery. Rumors have been circulating that a white dragon named Kamro has found the place, and has made it his lair. You all have your own reasons for adventuring to this long lost stronghold.

After a few rough days of travel south into the top of the Barrier Peaks you finally see what looks like the entrance to Stonefast. The stone mountainside around you begins to close in as you draw closer to this entrance.

To the south, you see two brass doors. The one on your right has been ripped from its hinges and thrown to the floor. There are deep gouges in the metal that look to be claw marks. The door to your left is intact, and covered in dwarven runes. Each door leads into its own separate chamber.

The dwarven runes are clear to you saying "Welcome to Stonefast"

To those without the sight to see in the dark it would seem that no light shines from within and any light needed to see would have too come from yourselves.

Scooter had traveled with his companions for many years now. They had done some good, gotten some riches, acquired some fairly insightful knowledge....overall their journey together had been a good one. Scooter had actually grown accustom to them, and even liked them. Being a straightforward, cantankerous old man, he didn't tend to keep many friends close. One of the reasons why he liked being a wizard. He could lock himself up in his study, read man, many books, and no have to talk to anyone for a long time. But this group seemed to get him out of his shell.

They had heard rumors that the famed Stonefast had finally been found. Of course Scooter knew they would not be the only ones to try and find the famed stronghold. But he hoped they'd be the first. And the rumors that the white dragon Kamro has moved into it would definitely help keep people away.

They finally arrived at the stronghold and they came to the entrance. One of the doors was completely off with claw marks all around the doorway....that dragon's no doubt. But the other was still closed, and even had a nice greeting on the front in Dwarvish. "Well at least the welcome on one side is still kind," Scooter joked with Hersteller. Then Scooter started in with his routine. Whenever they got to any new place, he tended to go through some steps before he'd let the other enter. First, he'd cast a spell upon himself....a wizard's protection. Then he'd start his ritual to see through arcane eyes, detecting any magic in the area.....generally traps, but sometimes other bits of magic here and there as well. And sometimes, if there was something interesting enough, he'd go about investigating that....writing down notes in a small journal he kept with him. This time, it was the claw marks. He assumed they were the white wyrm's, but never assume. For it makes a human out of you.....

With a bit of a gruff chuckle at the wee ones' banter, Hersteller retrieves a torch from his pack, and snaps his fingers. Immediately, the torch lights ablaze, and he hands it to Tikk. "Remember gnome, there are some in the party whose eyes 'aint used to bein' in tha' dark. Not all are as ocularly gifted and whatnot as you and I, y'know." Hersteller says with a bit of a cheeky grin.

Scooter just looks at Hersteller, the glare of the sun not letting the dwarf see his eyes. The gnome then walks over to the thief, touches his studded leather, turns and walks away. And as he turns and walks back to what he was doing, the studded leather starts to glow with a bright light. "There, now he can see well for a whole hour."

It was not uncommon for the grandpa of the group to do things like this. Of course, he never put them in danger to prove a point...... usually.

Orryn gives no tell that he is listening to the others, but carries on looking at the scratches on the door. "These do appear to be dragon claw markings. In my research before we left, there were many rumors of this white dragon, Kamro, arriving here as a Wyrmling, possibly after the dwarves had left......or may have come in and helped them leave. Though I can't imagine that a wyrming along with be able to route a whole stronghold of dwarves. Either way, were he a wyrmling when he arrived, he is definitely not so young now....."

He turns and walks away from the door towards the others, waving his hand at Tikk as he does. As the light fades on the halfling, he starts again, "We should be careful. We do not know what else might have moved in here, maybe even to worship such a dragon as Kamro. Or be protected by the name of such a creature. Whatever the case may be, we can be sure that this stronghold is not empty after so long."

Orryn looks over the door and the entrance, "My magics do not sense anything immediately threatening to us. Of course, that may change once we get inside....it is hard to deduce such a thing from out here." His head pops to the other door, and in answer to Olivia's question, "The other door says 'Welcome to Stonefast', my dear."

He laughs at Tikk, and prods the halfling a little, "You know, Tikk, not only do the rumors and scrolls say that the dwarves left a great treasure here, but dragons have their own hordes they collect over the years. Great, vast troves of treasure that is said to rival the coffers of all the kings put together. The one, or ones, that slay said dragon generally come away very prosperous." Tikk finds nothing fascinating about the door and no locks barring his entry. He pushes it inwards opening it along it's hinges on the right. The room fills with the light from his torch as well the warm glow of the setting sun.
From the doorway the group can see a fairly bland room save for a tome on a pedestal to the left of the entry. At the far end of the room is another door shut tight and waiting to be opened.

Scooter who was inspecting the claws looks up to notice a few details regarding the room with torn off doors. There are tapestries on the east and west walls, each depicting who appear to have been important dwarfs. Both have been shredded by large claws. The door to the south has been busted down, pieces of wood scattered across the floor are all that’s left of it. Some of the larger pieces have noticeable claw marks on them.

Scooter is intrigued by the tapestries, but at the sound of a tome, he cannot help himself. He scurries over to the other room, looking at the layout as he does, and settles up next to the tome. Assuming the pedestal is low enough for him to read, he goes up to it and after looking the whole thing over, starts to, very carefully, thumb through. Scooter pulls himself away from the allure of the tapestry's to go inspect this tome he heard about. Being a place for dwarves Scooter finds it easy to reach and the pedestal an easy device to read it on. The cover reads "Visitors" carefully flipping through it you see many different names followed by dates, times and race. Evidently no dwarven races. It seems to be a detailed ledger regarding every non-dwarf that passed through Stonefast. They were very meticulous with the book keeping one could assume. This tome alone seems like it could easily fetch a pretty penny if sold to the right collector.

Based off of Scooters rolls he puts the tomes value somewhere between 300-700 gold pieces

Scooter looks over the tome and finally comes to a conclusion, "It would seem, if I am correct, that we are in the visitor's entrance. If I had to guess, the other entrance would be the entrance for any dwarves that came to the stronghold. They would receive a proper, dwarven welcome. And here is what amounts to a guest book. Different races, who came through, when, and for what reason. It is quite the detailed ledger. Hersteller, would you like to keep it?" He continues in dwarven.
"It is also valued fairly highly. Into the hundreds of gold to the right seller."

Then starts again in common, "It would be fair to say that being the only dwarf, you are the one who it should go to."

It would be easy to discern that the other room the group did not enter would open up into the hall as well.

The group shuffles into the hallway, leaving the doors they have come through opened. A quick escape route if things go south. As they filter in one by one it is quickly apparent that the slender of light they are accustomed to in the wild would not be found here. The darkness creeps in around corners and past the light of Tikk's torch. Even to those that can see in the dark, the gray and black forms all around in the tight corridor gives off almost a suffocating feeling. But of course these are seasoned adventurers and something like that would never stop them.

Standing in the hall they party is met with a crossroads. To the west they find the 10 ft wide corridor extends further out into the dark just past a closed wooden door. Right near them is another hall that leads south. A oak door in clear view. And then to the east they find another shut door and another hallway that extends further out but stops at the wall at the end. Although just at the edge of Tikks torch the light finds its way through the dark stone walls and illuminates what could be another hallway or room.

In which direction would you like to proceed?

Walking up to the door to the east Tikk gives it a cursory once over before opening it. He swings the door inward, letting his torch light touch all that it can reach. Inside a large, sturdy oak table dominates the center of the room. It is roughly five feet wide and fifteen feet long with an assortment of broken chairs surrounding it. There are tapestries hung on the wall, but age and who knows what else have damaged them beyond recognition. Peaking his head slightly in would allow Tikk to see that on the center of each wall surrounding the rectangular room lies a wooden door.

Tikk leaves the open door for the others to peak into while he investigates further down the hall. He steps out into another intersection of sorts. To the north seems to be a room that's door was torn to shreds. pieces of wood can be seen splintered inward and scattered around the room. From his vantage point he can see smashed furniture in what looks like an office type of setting.

To the south of him lies a hall with two doors on either side. He is quick to deduce his suspicions of the one on the western end leading to the room he left for the others to look at if they wanted.
About 25 feet further south the hall ends and opens up again on either side.

A fairly nondescript and simple beginning to a once famous stronghold.
