Due to my inability to put anything in a spoiler box, I will now state a question/theory/boredom killer here.

The Snarl is made of the threads of existance, snarled. Would it not, then, be the enemy of Tharizdun, the god whose dogma is "The very threads of existence must be torn asunder, then burned, then the ashes scattered, until all is nothing and no one exists to remember existence"?

Since he has not appeared and is not mentioned at all in the Order of the Stick, it is an idea to easily be thrown out but I just find the idea of the ultimate destructive force going against the ultimate chaotic force.

Wrong campaign setting.

Greyhawk gods don't appear in OOTS; rather, it uses the Chinese, Viking, Babylonian and Greek (sort of) mythologies.

More to the point, Greyhawk and all of its characters (including the gods) are the intellectual property of Wizards of the Coast. If Rich used them, he could get sued. He gets away with mocking the rules because it's a parody, and parody is protected speech. Using a character as a legitimate part of the story would be an infringement, though.

Kurald- How come the Azure City is clearly Japanese-Based (Samuri, Ninja)? Or is this because stuff like Oriental Adventures borrowed from every Eastern country?

often it is assumed in the generic rules of D&D that somewhere out there, there is a place where culture grew differently (OMG, MADNESS) and thus there is an oriently...place...thing.
there is a reason why a monk class was not designed to mimick anything really in western culture, and why the DMs guide suggests for DMs to go ahead and take out anything that doesnt fit in the campaign setting (OA doesnt have pallies or bard, *cry*

anyways, im kinda leaning towards the OotS splitting up, 2 teams go after two gates at the same time, one team races Redcloak and Xykon, the other ends up crossing paths with the Linear Guild

Belkar will be discovered to have raw power in the force when he meets Obi-wan in his ghost/force form and becomes a kind wise Master only to discover the forrbiddin Cell phone with the Forrbidden Number on speed dial #3 which when he calls it he loses all of his power and kindness/wisdom and sets the Forrbidden Clock counting to doomsday.

While Belkar is in training Elan relizes that as a Bard it is his time to make the Forrbidden Journey of the Bard where unlike like any bard before him he meets the Beatles (whom all Bards worshship) and they go find the rest of the Order and start a rock'n party with the Beatles as the band.

Half way though Paperback Writer Zyklon burst in to finally have his revenge agianst Elton John who is a level 43 Barbarian. In the middle of the climatic fight Belkar returns to tip the scales in Elton John's favor and Xyklon is forced to flee!!

The Beatles and the Order part ways and the Order while traveling stumbles upon the Forrbidden Caves were they learn of the 8Th gate (No, there is no 6th or 7th gate) and must travel to the land knowen only as Wisconsin.

When they reach the land of Wisconsin they fall into a trap. The word Forrbidden has been copyrighted and now they must go to court where they blow thier way out Comando style and distroy the 8th gate.

But as they are about to leave Xyklon and his army, the linear Guild, all remaining Saphire Guards, the jedi, and the Canadian Mounties show up as the Forrbidden Clock which has been counting up from 10 has reach the finnal 10 of death and thus begins the ultimate showdown of ultimate destiny.

Then the clock appears and all relize it is to late. but it stops on 665 (one away from distruction) for unknowen reasons. And due to the expirence of nearly dieing all depart in peace...for now.

Why did the Clock stop?
Will belkar ever regian his force skill?
And just what did he do with the Forrbidden Cell Phone?

End of Part One (1)

well even if it werent a parody, he'd still have been in the clear, because its open game content or some such like that.

First, WOTC isn't nearly that lawsuit-happy (remember T$R?). Second, Rich works for them, or at least, publishes his comics in their magazine. Third, for using a relatively minor character such as a background deity like that, parody clause could be argued to apply, as could fair use.

I'd say the reason Rich doesn't use the Greyhawk pantheon is because he had a more original and/or funnier idea, not because of fear of the sue. Besides, many people wouldn't get the reference because they don't have ranks in the "Geek knowledge: Greyhawk trivia" skill.

According to Wikipedia, Japan does use a variant of the Chinese Zodiac. But yes, this is indeed an amalgam of several different kinds of Eastern culture, as for instance indicated by the character names. I think Rich is subtly making fun of the hodgepodge that some of the Setting Books have become.
