This is basically cackling, as my player is using a different app to I am, and spells need to be chosen, and I think he's got the number of spells wrong for his level 6 wizard...

No from what I understand stand is:
level 1: 3 + int (+5) so 8....
Level 2+: 2 spells per level.

So he should have a total of 18 spells to cast?? This is with out his arcane specialisation of school of shadow...
I am not sure as I haven't played a wizard, and I don't want to short change him... But I'm just trying to get the proper answer...

You´re mixing things up there, it seems.

The 3+Int at 1st and 2 at each level are the spells that a Wizard gets to scribe in his spell book for free, without cost or check attached. Beyond that, they simply must pay to acquire more spells and copy them to their book, but can have an unlimited number.

Beyond that, a Wizard can prepare only a certain number of spells from their book, based on their wizard level and modified by attribute modifiers, maybe plus one/spell level for specialization.
So base 4/3/3/2, modified by Int 20 (I presume?) to 3/4/4/3 and maybe adding +1 for specialization at each level.

What Florian said is 100% correct, but I also want to point you to the actual rules.

Spells in spellbook

Wizards (https://www.d20pfsrd.com/classes/core-classes/wizard/) get a number of spells for free in their spellbook:

Starting Spells (See Spellbooks below): A wizard begins play with a spellbook containing all 0-level wizard spells (except those from his opposed schools, if any; see Arcane Schools) plus three 1st-level spells of his choice. The wizard also selects a number of additional 1st-level spells equal to his Intelligence modifier to add to the spellbook. [...]
So with 20 Int, it would be all 0-level spells plus 8 (3+5) 1st-level spells.

Whenever they level up, they can add two more spells to their spellbook for free, of any level they can cast (at the new level)

Spells Gained at a New Level: Wizards perform a certain amount of spell research between adventures. Each time a character attains a new wizard level, he gains two spells of his choice to add to his spellbook. The two free spells must be of spell levels he can cast.
At level 5, they have added 8 (4*2) additional spells in addition to the starting spells.

In addition, they can always add additional spells to their spellbooks, the necessary checks and costs are described in the Magic chapter of the CRB (https://www.d20pfsrd.com/magic/#TOC-Adding-Spells-to-a-Wizard-s-Spellbo).

Spells per day

The number of spells a wizard can add and prepare are listed in the wizard table ("Spells per day"). At 5th level, they can prepare 4 0th-level spells, 3 1st-level spells, 2 2nd-level spells and 1 3rd-level spell. They get additional spells per day of 1st level and higher for a high Int score. This is listed on the table Ability Modifiers and Bonus Spells (https://www.d20pfsrd.com/basics-ability-scores/ability-scores#TOC-Abilities-and-Spellcasters) in the first chapter of the CRB. With Int 20, the Wizard gets 2 additional 1st-level spells, 1 additional 2nd-level spell, and 1 additional 3rd-level spell. He will also get an additional 4th- and 5-th level spell as soon as he can cast them (at Wizard levels 7 and 9, respectively). You never get additional 0th-level spells for high Int.

So your calculation for spells per day would be:

Spell level
Base spells/day (from Wizard class)
Bonus spells/day (from Int)
Total spells/day
