College of Swords/ Hexblade multi class advice.

I'm rolling a new character for a campaign I'm in and thinking of going swords bard with a hex blade dip. So my question is this; would it be better to go bard 17/ warlock 3 for a d12 song of rest, or bard 16/ warlock 4 to get my fourth asi? This going to be a long campaign so I'm trying to get an Idea of how I should build. I'm going tiefling I know it's not optimal but I care far more about making interesting characters than min/maxing.
