Today, mid session, we encountered part of the BBEG's (the Dark Lord's) golem army. Once this had been dealt with I told the party, "you know what that is don't you..." and started singing

"I hear the animated marching feet
the evil Dark Lord's military elite
each of them raised and controlled to be
The Chromic Army

Nobody goes where the Dark Lord dares,
he's ruthless and deadly and full of scares
Out in the night he spoils for a fight
No fool is he
and braver than you think he would be
and he's brighter than the average fighter
that's why he runs the army

The Chromic Army!"

And although the druid wanted to hit me, I ended up with a load more experience.

So then when the Rogue was starting to question our cause I let rip with my character backstory poem. Which is maybe a tad too specific for general use...

"In the town of Blackwall, which is where I grew up
I got all my skills from the dice cup
I gambled from a young age at the back of the pub
and soon I had my own gaming club

The club it grew larger and less satisfied
with the town and the actions it was taking worldwide
I said to my people that this would be changed
I got us a base and the room rearranged

We practiced our swordskills and I was not bad
I was doing quite well with the talent I had
But whent it came to further our cause
I wouldn' allow then to start their street wars

and so out on my ear I suddenly fell
and on this matter I'd rather not dwell
I learnt of the temple and the Dark Lords transport (a flying castle powered by a temple)
And with this magic device I sought to consort

But a party of sorts was already there
And of our common goals I made them aware
To send the castle straight into the ground
It's the kind of deed that'll get me well renowned

Some monsters jumped out when we were in the crypt
we had many battles and you remember the script
I played with the alter of magic unknown
but I got interrupted and turned into stone

And the wizard got hurt and was a halfling no more
and in new goblin form went to the old magic store (hehe reincarnation)
To search for a scroll which is what we would need
to turn stone to flesh and allow us to proceed

And the castle had crashed down onto the plain
The villagers woke and the loooked on in pain
for they were supporters of the evil dark lord
and he is not within reach and this can't be ignored"

And they all agreed that I do serve a purpose in the party and rewarded me with XP accordingly.

Anyway, the point is that singing stuff gives rewards. The best mutually beneficial way to all get these rewards is for all the bards to write songs or poems that can be used by the other bards of GITP in their campaigns. That way, as a group, we could get something for nothing . So write some poetry to share for situations that crop up all the time and collectively we all win.:smalltongue:

Depends. I may give XP bonuses the first few times, but I'm not going to let a bard climb farther and farther ahead of the party; at some point I'll just say, "You've exhausted singing as an XP source."

RP XP isn't something you should be able to count on: it's meant to be a selective bonus (usually just used by DMs to speed up levelling when necessary.)

Bluff, bluff, bluff the stupid ogre?

Gives you experience, certainly. Experience of being beat with a club.

Also, is your line in your sig genuine feeling or sarcasm?

Love and fear :)
