My DM encourages random insanity and thinking way outside the box factory. As such, he has made numerous magical tools for the sole purpose of seeing what we would do with them. One such item is a ring he gave to me (cleric) and the druid. Ring of the Grammarian. Once per day we can alter a known spell name to create an entirely new spell and cast that spell spontaneously. It still counts against our spells for the day, but we can alter any spell on our list and use it on the fly.
We can do one of three things: add a letter, remove a letter, replace a letter. Plays on words are allowed and the options do not have to be PG-rated.

Example: Original spell is "Bane". I can change it to "Band" and now I can summon a death metal group in the middle of a dungeon to provide us with battle music for the barbarian to mosh to while he cracks skulls.
Original Spell "Aid". Changed to "Maid". We now have someone to clean up our bloody carnage before the city guard show up.
"Create Food and Water" -> "Create Flood and Water" because if you're making water, might as well go big or go home.

We've been coming up with things on the fly, but we won't be playing for a bit due to life issues and the druid and I have been sitting down to brainstorm random spells while we're on hiatus. We're both level 20 (cleric with life domain and Druid) so we have access to the full list.

We were wondering if anyone would assist us with thinking of new spells. We're not looking for game breaking ideas, but if you think of one, we'd love to hear it because nothing's more fun than dropping a Balrog on a mouthy Rat King.

First: You have an awesome DM.

Second: I realise that 'wish' is on neither the cleric nor druid spell lists, but, especially if you read the Darths and Droids webcomic, renaming it 'fish' could be used for fun and profit.

Hole Person: Ew.
Gentle Depose: Replace leader in a bloodless coup.
Zine of Truth: Conjure a magazine filled with well-written articles detailing plot-relevant goings-on in the game world.
Mispel Magic: Similar in effect to the magic ring, however next altered spell can creatively, er, spelled.
Remote Curse: Teleports target's handheld item to nearest seat cushion.
Commute: Summons a cabriolet pulled by a team of well-coifed but rude goblins.

Yes, he is a lot of fun. We had to start the game at level 1 with "some level of stupidity" and as we level, we get smarter. I was an Orc who thought anyone under hip high was a child and needed protecting. Dwarves were just kids with tyroid issues.
I'm really digging the suggestions so far. My druid friend is trying to devise a way to use the planar spells to create planets that we can rule over like gods.

Chill touché: you are able to admit the DM made a good point without feeling bitter about it.

It's a cantrip, but the ring only has one use per day. TT_TT

Divine Word → Divine Worm. Or any “word” spell. No idea what it does. Just tell your DM you cast it and wait and see.
Dawn → Darn. It doesn’t have to be PG, but it is. Your move.
Gate → Mate. Use Darn to establish it’s PG. Check and mate, you win. If you forgot to cast Darn, it’s a completely different spell, but still gold for most players.
Foresight → Moresight. It’s gotta be an upgrade.
Plant → Plane
Plant Growth → Plane Growth. Combine with Demiplane.
Speak with Plants → Speak with Planes. Could be fun.
Transport via Plants → Transport via Planes. Probably not so useful.
Contact other Plane → Contract Other Plane. Is it the opposite of plane growth, or does it put an entire plane on your payroll? Or both?
Planar Binding → Planar Blinding. Everyone, dude. Blind everyone.
→ Planar Bending. See if you can get him to change the planar attributes with this.
→ Planar Finding. Look for something unoccupied, repossess it, and plane growth.
→ Planar Winding. For when Bending isn’t enough.
→ Planar Bonding. Okay, I’m done.

Cast Planar Finding to get the qualities you want, Planar Bonding to make it yours, then Plane Growth (Or, if you must, Contract Other Plane) until it’s the right size for you.

This one is particularly brilliant. It doesn't work with just one letter changed, but then it does because it fits the spell.

The latter, because "Raft of Druids" uses the second meaning of "a great number of them."

The latter, because "Raft of Druids" uses the second meaning of "a great number of them."

Now, the real question is: are the druids alive or dead? If alive, are they "magically whisked away from home" to perform this spell - interrupting their lives and causing disorder? Will the druids drown? Will they wildshape while you're rafting them?

I have a list somewhere of comical spell names. My friends and I were making them up, just the names, with the effects left to the imagination. I'll see if I can dig it up, and how many adhere to the one letter rule.

Question: can changing a spell this way also change the level? For instance, if you turned Gentle Repose into Gentle Depose, well, deposing a tyrant in a bloodless coup seems like a bigger deal than a level 2 spell should be able to cause, right?

Anyway, how about True Striker, which turns the spell into a concentration spell that grants the person enchanted advantage on every attack?

True Trike - summon a tricycle that the rider can maneuver flawlessly with but a thought.

Arcane (word for male chicken) - hey, you said they didn't have to be PG-rated. (That said, summoning 5d6 chickens would probably be funnier.)

Alter Sell - pull a tanuki trick by changing an object you're selling to appear more valuable or useful.

Blindness n' Deafness - now you can both blind and deafen your target!

Heal Metal - quickly repair large metal objects, machines, or vehicles. (This can get a lot more done than a casting of Mending.)

Produce Fame - now everyone knows who you are!

Day of Frost - the weather gets really chilly for the rest of the day.

Feather All - everyone is covered in feathers and probably looks really silly.

Hell - You don't want to heal them, you just want them to suffer more.

Godberry - Eating a godberry grants a creature a level 1 divine spell slot, and the knowledge of a divine spell offered by a deity they're ideologically aligned with. If you eat more than one in a day, the deity in question will realize that you are leeching their power and smite you.

Goodberryl - You conjure a handful of pretty but worthless gemstones.

Gooberry - Eating a gooberry turns you into a slime for one minute. When the duration is up, you reform with all of your clothes and equipment.

Hearing Word - Your fate is tweaked so that if something important is happening in the area, you will soon hear about it.

Bust Devil - Reveal a hidden devil and its wrongdoings, and capture/restrain it. (Strength save?)

Earthblind - A creature with tremorsense loses it.

In a similar vein, we'll be including The Mispelled Spellbook, which gives you a similar power, as an artifact magic item in our Fey Folio (available to Patrons soon). This is something we've been planning for over (http://mfov.magehandpress.com/2017/01/misspelled-spelbook-excerpts.html) a year (http://mfov.magehandpress.com/2017/05/more-mispelled-spells.html), so it was a nice coincidence that this thread just popped up.

Sea invisibility: makes you invisible, as long as you are in the sea.
Or it makes the sea itself invisible...lots of fun, especially if it works on smaller bodies of water.

Bestow Curse: Give someone a bunch of mangy mongrels (literal or figurative).
Create or Destroy Mater: Depending on your DM's typo policy, it's either incredibly useful or only works on awakened pickup trucks.
Create Undead: Useful for when you can't be bothered to fight the darn things.
Darkskin: I dunno how often you would need blackface, but I thought the thought was weirdly amusing.
Detect Manic: The grammar's a bit clumsy, but it's a decent psychiatry tool.
Deincarnate, Devivify: For when you need something to be less extant or alive.
Divine World: Maybe keep this ring away from missionaries.
Enthrill: Whee!
Flight: A cantrip to replace a 3rd-level spell.
Funseen Servant: You have to look at it, but it brings life to any party.
Geas: Could be useless or awesome, depending on the kind.
Grant Insect: Useful for last-minute birthday presents...unless they have to be mundane insects and not, I dunno, bullet ants or giant centipedes or whatever.
Gust of Wand: Hopefully, the wands are still enchanted.
CHarm Person: For when the original spell goes wrong.
Illusory Script: Good for pretending a guild owes you money.
Legend Lori: Only useful if you know someone named Lori.
Mage Hang: That's one way to kill a wizard.
Magic Mouth: They're nocturnal, but
Massege: Comfortable, if the tyop doesn't twist it too badly.
Moonbean: If nothing else, you could probably use it to buy a cow.
Pass Without TRace: It probably has some use. Especially if you get in trouble for using Darkskin...
Planar Finding: It might let you find a plane (not useful), or it might be a cross-planar spell for finding things (useful).
Plant Growth: Does what it sounds like. Requires two castings for a full pair.
Plane Shift: Your DM could interpret this multiple ways, but most would be useful.
Plate Shift: This would be even more so...unless it only applied to tableware.
Raise, Dead: Not sure what you could use this for that animate dead or the original spell couldn't, aside from theatrics.
SPeak with Animals/Plants/Etc: Good for summoning a mountain.
Sanding: For the magical carpenters.
Shutter: For windows.
Tharm (https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/tharm): Obscure words will get you far.
STorm of Vengeance: When you need a proper smiting, accept no substitutes.
Vicious Mockery: Summon a heckler.

Fileball: The caster chooses either a great wad of official and/or useful papers (mostly many years out of date) or a great pile of steel files - the shaping tools - of various sizes, shapes, and quality.

Skimming the spell list and stretching beyond CoD spells...

Aida: Good for when you need a hireling. Or an opera.
Arcane Dock: For when you need to tie your magical ship up somewhere.
Arcane Eyy: You just know the Fonz would love this spell.
Arcane Locke: Sometimes, you just need a good philosopher-wizard.
Arms of Radar: Good for scanning the area for people to hug.
Braiding Smite: Effective against enemies with animate hair. Or medusae.
Calm EMotions: Remember when Scion stopped Leviathan's tidal waves? ...What do you mean, you don't know what I'm talking about?
Cline: Another of those spells which only works if your DM happens to know a technical term.
Conjure Boarrage: Angry pig FTW.
Cotnap: Similar to the original, except with a bed.
Crown of Stars: A space bird can have all sorts of uses.
Dance Macabre: Thriller!
Dominate Beast: Make sure to recast it often, or else you'll have a goddess who's pissed that you just controlled her.
Drown of Madness: When you really need to immerse someone in the crazy.
Druid Grave: That's one way to get a death spell!
Fare Step: Perfect for charging tolls on footbridges!
Feign Dearth: Pretend that you're suffering from a shortage.
Firebald: Depending on if fire is a noun or a verb, it either conjures middle-aged men to throw at people or scorches off someone's hair.
Glo[/b]v[/b]e of Invincibility: Good for working with dangerous chemicals.
Heat Metal: Fancy.
Hax: I call it!
Healing Ward: Boring; probably just a field of healing or something. But it's probably more useful than burning somebody's hair off.
Hollow: ...Did nobody think of this yet?
Lust Devil: A 2nd-level spell to summon a lawful succubus, cheaper than summon minor demon and much cheaper than planar ally.
Mage Armor: A specialized and unusually-potent form of charm person.
Melt's Acid Arrow: Good for when you need to dissolve something. Or maybe it's a caustic sandwich.
Mind Blank: Either stores mental energy, or keeps an eye on your finances.
Mind Steed: Good for when you can't afford a groom.
Misread: A potent debuff when cast on a wizard; a harmless prank on anyone else.
Misty Stop: I'm not sure what this is, but I'm leaning towards either an anti-teleportation spell or a Pokémon joke.
Moonbeam! Go all Majora's Mask on them. Sunbam! is similar, but hotter. (Note: It may help if you spell it with the exclamation mark.)
Psychic Scream: Get out of here, psions! Shoo, shoo!
Scatter: This is already a spell...but a high-level one.
Shadow Clade: Erm...come to think of it, this probably wouldn't do anything if your DM isn't a bio major.
Shadow of MOil: Or Shadow of Foil, or Shadow of Coil, or Shadow of Toil...there's a lot of fun to be had with this spell.
SKill Empowerment: Sorry, this is as powerful as you're gonna get. It's all downhill from here.
Silance: A lance made of silicon. Decent emergency weapon.
Slur: An audio version of the classic illusion spell.
Spearing Smite: For when you left your weapon at home but still need to smite someone.
Steal Wind Strike: A very niche spell, but hilarious if you get a chance to use it.
Transmute Rack: Perfect for when you need to dry some clothes. What did you think I was talking about?
Wall of Land: A bit more solid than the original spell, and very useful at sea.
Water Balk: Hydrophobia.
Zeroism: A potent debuff spell.
(whatever) Bola: Good for snaring people. And possibly setting them on fire.

Also, how does this item interact with scrolls?
1. Can you scribe scrolls with these spells on them? I'm sure you could sell these unique scrolls at quite a premium.
2. Can you use the item on spells cast from scrolls? If so, you might have access to spells off your spell list.
3. Can you do both? In that case...well, the options open up quite a lot. (Warning: Don't try this unless #1 and #2 have been approved.)

A creature takes 4d8 bludgeoning damage and is knocked back five feet on a failed save, or half as much damage on a successful one. Any creature hit with this spell smells awful until they next wash.

Cone of Old
A magical ray of aging erupts from your hands. Each creature in a 60-foot cone must make a Constitution saving throw. Those that fail age the equivalent of 8d8 human years, adjusted for their race. If this takes them over their race's natural lifespan, they die of old age in an hour. This effect can be reversed if Greater Restoration is cast on the creature within the next month.

Cone of Mold
Everything within a 60-foot cone of the caster is covered in toxic mold. All creatures that are in the area of effect or move through it while the mold persists must make a Constitution saving throw or become diseased.

Cone of Fold
All creatures and objects within a 60-foot cone of the caster are folded in half. Non-magical rigid objects break and all creatures must make a Constitution saving throw or have their spine broken. Cloth and other non-rigid objects are folded neatly.

Cone of Sold
The caster buys everything in a 60-foot cone when they cast this spell. This can cause severe legal problems if slavery is outlawed in the area they cast this.

Cone of Told
The caster tells off all creatures in a 60-foot cone. Those creatures must make a Charisma saving throw or become dejected and morose, taking no willing action unless attacked for 24-hours.

Cone of Bold
The caster dispels all fears in a 60-foot cone, including social fears like the fear of rejection or humiliation. In addition, the clothes of any creature in the area of effect become bright and bold for 24 hours and they smell strong and confident to others.

Cone of Coal
A spray of coal erupts from the caster's fingers. All creatures within the area of effect take 8d8 bludgeoning damage on a failed Dexterity saving throw and half that on a successful save. In addition, all objects in the area of effect, including any creature that took damage from this spell, is covered in coal dust and will ignite the next time it takes fire damage unless thoroughly cleaned.

Now try to play with the 'cone' part of the spell.

Cone of Bold - The caster dispels all fears in a 60-foot cone, including social fears like the fear of rejection or humiliation.
So, the effect of Cone of Told should be removed by Cone of Bold, right?

Cone of Coal...
The coal should disappear either right away or after a short duration, or you must expect people to use it just to get fuel. (OK, it's a pretty high level spell just to create pile of coal, but coal may be pretty valuable if the tech level is such that its uses are better known than its sources.)

Remember the older editions when some of the spells had their creator's name as part of their name? Like Mordenkainen's Disjunction? I guess you could have had MILF's Acid Arrow.
