Alofael, Rengore, Avani and Aeradeth

You recover from your journey at the King's Respite, enjoying food that isn't more salt than anything else, and water that isn't stagnant or gelled from time in the cask. The ale is passable, but you likely drank more ale than anything else on the journey. Word of the ship's arrival and your eventual destination must have reached the right ears. Before long a few young elven men and women enter the tavern. All bear crests on their tunics of various elven houses. As part of your bargain to get aboard the ship when you did, and not wait for a long time like most settlers to the new world, you had agreed to do a service for the crown upon arrival. It was all too likely that these elves were there to bring you to the governor to do just that. You had thought that it would be a few days of resting and recuperating before that would be necessary, but bureaucracy moves swiftly only when you dread the results.

One of the pages approaches each of you, with a letter, sealed in red wax with a signet of a raven. The letter briefly welcomes you to the colony, and informs you that you are to come immediately to the Governor's palace. No other details are given, though the page looks at you expectantly, clearly on orders to lead you there promptly. You glance down at your partially finished meal, wondering how prompt you need to be.

Alofael and Aeradeth
Being of elven descent, you recognize the elves that arrive are likely court pages, bearing their family crests. It speaks volumes of the priorities of the crown that court pages are present in the town, when space is so dear on every transport that sails here. You don't immediately recognize any of the crests, meaning they are likely very low nobility or bastards. Interestingly enough, they are shown almost no respect or attention by most of the patrons. You also notice that, short of two or three half elves, you are the only ones present of elven blood besides the pages. The half-elves pay a small amount of attention to the pages, but quickly dismiss them once they recognize they are not there for them.

Spirit:
As you stand out in a familiar field enjoying the breeze of the warm summer day, your ears perk up at the sound of a twig breaking behind you. Turning, you see two elven guardsmen approach, neither of which you know. The familial crests that adorn their armor tells you that they are from important families, but not much more than that. You'd gotten into a small amount of trouble ignoring an order from a guard similar to these, who was trying to get you to stop aiding in the birth of a human woman's child in favor of an elven woman's. He seemed to take it as a matter of course that you would let the human woman suffer to help an elven one, not considering that the human had asked for your services first and was in a difficult labor.

You are on edge as they calmly greet you and inform you your presence is requested at the governor's palace. You barely hold back a snort at that. The palace was just the same as every other building in town: short, squat and made of whatever timber could be cut down and planed before the harsh winter. It was probably drafty and cold in the winter and unbearably stuffy in the summer. Lost in thought, you quickly realize that the guards were there to escort you to the palace and ensure you went there promptly.

As a stowaway, Avani did not pay for passage and is therefore surprised that the elven nobles would be expecting her. Nonetheless, she takes the scroll and speaks to the messenger. "Thank you sir. I will go with you as soon as I have finished my food."

Stuffing an uneaten piece of bread into his satchel for later, Aeradeth stretches his arms back with an exaggerated sigh. Grabbing the plain alabaster mask to his right, he fiddles with the loose string slightly before successfully donning the mask. "Wouldn't want to make the Governor wait now would we ladies and gents?"

With Aeradeth's left hand his secretly reaches into his component pouch and begins to wrap a short piece of copper wire in a specific motion. With the mask covering his face, he whispers, "Young Sire, need we worry about an audience before the Governor?"

Casting Message, the Court Page can response with a whisper that only I hear.

Alofael watches the pages enter and approach a handful of individuals, three of which he recognizes from the ship. He glances down at his plate again, then over to Rengore who seemed similarly interested in finishing the best food they'd had in months. "I do understand the crown shouldn't be kept waiting, but we've scarcely lost our sea legs. Might we have a few minutes to finish our meals, even hastily, before setting out? Maybe it took you slightly longer to find us than expected... or some of us were already in our rooms after the long journey?" His tone is formally familiar, as though asking a favor of a colleague.

If the page approves, he rapidly finishes his food, collect his belongings, and follow to the palace. If not... he grabs the chicken leg to eat on the way, discarding the bone into a bush as they near the palace and pulling the lower corner of his cloak up to wipe his mouth before entering.

The pages seem uneasy but don't force you to follow them immediately.

You get the sense that they don't really have the authority to force you to do anything, but were told to get you to the palace as soon as possible. Any delays will look back on them, but they can't really do anything about it.

"Not unless you have a reason to fear it, sir. They don't tell me much."

Twisting the copper wire back around, "No true worries, just cautious in a new land. Thank you, lead the way please."

Aeradeth continues to fiddle with a piece copper wire in his left hand, repeating a dance of precise gestures over and over, making the wire bend and straighten around the digits. He waits for the others near the exterior door with the Court Pages, chipping in bits of small talk and inquiries regarding the Colony of Talan.

Not looking up or stopping his chewing and stuffing his face "Chieften will wait. Rengore eating. You want Rengore to go you wrestle Rengore and win then Rengore go no trouble." Rengore finishes saying with a gulp and a sip of water. "It rude to stop someone eating. If you wrestle Rengore you must allow Rengore to be ready or else Rengore kill you for being coward. It will be one on one. All of you may try. These are the rules. Rengore says all of this matter of factly.

Assuming they don't try to wrestle him he finishes his food and drink in his own good time. He leaves 2 copper for a tip. He then signals them to lead the way.

I sigh and frown a little, i have never enjoyed people trying to order me around. But i put up with it, i know they have never respected me. I take one more look at my meadow, its so relaxing here. Another little sigh i turn to them and say, "Alright, lets go. Do you know what they need?" I say, they never want me around unless they need something. Usually someone is hurt. These men would have been much more urgent and told me though, hmmm ... interesting. "Do i need my gear?"

(im going to assume its ok to skip forward)

Getting to my home, i enter, looking around and gathering my supplies, some medical gear, a little pouch of stones for my sling, my staff, less for walking more for style but also something to hit things with if need be. Its beautifully carved, something she did herself and made over a winter a few years back. Strapping that in to her side, she packs up some food for a good number of days, but knows that they can hunt and forage for more ... getting all packed up and closing the door behind her she turns to the guards, "Alright, all ready. Where does he need them guided to?"

Your guards aren't very talkative on the journey into town. They lead you to the Governor's Palace, and you are brought into what looks like a dining hall. Several long tables have been pulled to the sides of the room, leaving it largely bare except for a large iron throne inset with emeralds at one end. Beside the throne is a smaller, still grand, chair where a wiry male elf sits on the red fabric. You can't quite catch the end of a conversation he is having with a small group, consisting of a tiefling, an orc and an elf. All are dressed quite finely. They bow, barely a fraction, before turning and walking past you. You do see that each of them has a golden clasp holding their cloaks shut in the form of a hammer and anvil.

"My dear...Spirit is it? I have heard a lot about you from my sources that you are quite a capable woodswoman. I am sending a group of mercenaries on an important task, and need someone to guide them to their destination. Can you do this service for the Crown?"

Before you can answer, a small group of elves, emblazoned with more heraldry, leads a mixed group of beings in. The group contains an elf, a feral looking human, a tough looking goblin and an armored half-elf.

You are quickly brought to the Governor's Palace, which is a fairly unimpressive two-story wooden building. It doesn't look that much different than the rest of the town.

Palace may be a bit of an exaggeration, Alofael thought as they approached the structure. Still, with only a few years the town had grown at a reasonable pace. Seems they were a bit short on stone though. He'd seen some mountains from the ship, so maybe securing a route for the miners was on the list? It should be if it wasn't already, anyway.

From the far end of the room he thought there was a mounted woman near the throne, but drawing closer revealed it to be a single creature. He couldn't help but stare a bit, and he was certain this would not be the strangest thing to see in the New World. "It was far harder to leave the stewed venison at the King's Respite. Apologies for the delay, m'lord," he says with a slight bow. "We were quite famished and a bit weary from the journey. Rest assured I take my duty to the Crown seriously and am eager to do my part to bring prosperity to Talan."

Shifting through a series of progressively worse robbery ideas, Aeradeth decides this likely isn't the time or place to pull a heist. His mind turns to the task presented by the Elvish Governor, "Bandits? What do you know of their motivations and overall numbers? Any information you can provide to aid us in our preparations would be greatly appreciated."

Continuing to play with the copper wire, Aeradeth's eyes move to Spirit.

Spirit can't see the Elf's lips moving beneath the mask, but in her mind hears Aeradeth's voice call to her in a whisper, "Pleasure to meet you Spirit. Apologies for Rengore, he's brash but quite lovable given time."

And then turns away, hoping to set him in his place and possibly judging right that he would respect her more for it. She then looks back at the rest of them turning just a little, tail swishing away a bug, Aeradeth could see a small hint of a smile as she receives his message, and a quiet reply back ...

"Dont worry ... its nothing ive not heard before."

"The tribes and the settlers do not .. exactly get along here ... there are also lizard folk as well." She says, answering a bit. She herself is mostly unclothed aside from a top covering her modesty, as well as a bit of leather armor and her front legs as well sport leather to protect them from sword or more likely, sharp rocks and branches from travelling through the bush. She looks to be carrying a lot of gear, still strapped to her sides and back, with a large staff against her side, inside a nice well made leather carrying case. She looks well ready for travel.

Returning the copper wire to his component pouch, Aeradeth relaxes as it appears the Governor's intentions were, at least on the surface, honorable. As a sign of respect, the back string of the mask is removed, letting the alabaster impression drop into an open hand below. Scratching his nose, "There may yet be a chance for a diplomatic solution. Is there a leader for their community? Someone we can trust once we're in the town?"

Turning towards Spirit, "We'll follow your lead." As he bows forward his left hand returns the mask to the pack on his back. "You may call me Aeradeth. I feel we're lucky to make your acquaintance within this matter."

From the paladin's surprised look at Liz's arrival, Aeradeth infers Alofael had no clue about the raven until that very moment. Alofael says a few words in the sharp Orcish tongue to Rengore with a cautionary look. The man's size was intimidating, but if they were to fight together in a few days, cohesion would be needed even if it meant a firm hand. He'd seen enough young soldiers fall to similar mistakes.

Rengore
The horses talk to you only briefly. They are grateful to be out of the stable, and don't think they have been ill treated. They talk about a journey over the big undrinkable water and how harsh that was for them. By comparison, the stabling was paradise.

The horses are frisky at the start of the journey, but a few soothing neighs from Rengore soon settle you into a path. You ride for several hours, making your way through low rolling forest, that the city extends into. The path you ride on has been well trod over and is largely packed earth, at least for the first few hours of your journey. After about three hours of riding, the path enters a very small village of six or seven rough log houses. Sweaty men of several men of various races are busy chopping trees and pulling up stumps to prepare fields. As Spirit comes into sight, they immediately stop what they are doing and quickly pick up whatever implements they have nearby, holding them warily.

You notice a kid that was near the group runs quickly back to the village. When he reaches it, a woman pulls him into the first house, and several men with longbows step into the street, keeping a wary eye on you.

As they approach, Alofael raises a friendly hand in greeting hoping to signal their peaceful intentions until the group is within speaking distance. Being a foreigner, he keeps a close eye on Spirit's demeanor in case she knows more about these folks than he might. As their mounts come to a halt he addresses the residents calmly as a slight breeze kicks his fine hair up from his shoulders. "Good day, friends. I'm sure word has reached your ears of Tecreci's unfortunate situation. We ride from Talan under orders of the governor to take back the town for the glory of Zumkral." He takes a moment to gauge their reactions and allow for a response of some sort. "If you know anything that might aid us in providing relief for the victims of this attack please share your wisdom - many of us are new to this land and have much to learn from your experience over the last several years," he adds deferentially.

The people seem to react better to Spirit's explanation, but are still very wary.

Spirit's excellence woodwomanship leads the party without difficulty around the town, only taking about fifteen minutes. On the far side of the town is what looks like an orchard with very young trees planted in it. After three more hours of riding, the sun is starting its dip. The road has slowly started to diminish from a well cut and obvious path to two ruts worn by wagon wheels. It is still fairly well defined, but if it continues to diminish you will start having trouble finding the way. Off to the side of the road is a small clearing with ashes in the middle from a recent campfire. It looks like a decent campsite, but there is still at least an hour of sunlight in the sky. It's hard to say if you'll find another good campsite in the hour of light you have left.

Gathering a small amount of varied-sized twigs and scattered wood, Aeradeth takes care in making a few bundles of kindling. With a snap of his fingers the dried bark sparks and produces a low flicker of flame. "Much appreciated Avani, on your mark I'll take up the watch later on. Sleep well all, big day ahead tomorrow."

Dropping a bedroll near one of the fires, Aeradeth spends the rest of his time until nightfall reading from his spellbook. Observers see that he has a handful of crumpled piles of scratch paper on which he continues to make sprawling notes. Occasionally, he drops his graphite stick to test new hand gestures, before returning to his notes.

Liz the Raven has taken perch on a branch in a neighboring set of trees, watching over the campsite.

Liz is also keeping watch with Avani, her passive perception is 13, perception mod is +3. She's been instructed to telepathically call to Aeradeth should there be something around which could pose harm to the party.

Spirit begins looking around the camp for signs of the previous occupants. While there are some confusing prints, she does discover some clear signs that centaur have camped here previously. Not only footprints, but some discarded rinds of a Piquata fruit that is far too bitter for most other humanoids to enjoy, and reacts with centaur biology to be mildly hallucinogenic. Some of the other tracks are a form she doesn't know, but they are small humanoids with talons or small claws. Centaur aren't the only ones to use the campsite, as there are signs that other humanoids have been there before. It is hard to say who used the campsite last.

Rengore manages to gather sufficient dry wood for the campfire for the night, and manages to sneak up on a pair of fat rabbits, as well as a small collection of edible roots and berries. The flora and fauna here are different, but not nearly as much as he had feared.

Avani manages to disguise the campsite to make it harder to spot by a casual observer. The fire might still be visible, but it would be very hard to tell how many were in the camp.

Spirit looks up, "So there was at least a centaur here, and some other creatures with talons it seems, possibly lizard folk? Doesnt seem that old." She stands up and helps get camp setup. Talking to the orc though, "Well, ive not really lived with them, so while i may be a centaur im not an expert on their culture. But relations have been strained between the colonists and the tribes, they have fought but nothing like all out war .... " She trails off a little , frowning just a little and continuing, "The tribes tend to move a lot, not staying in once place, and are in family groups. How about your home? Your people?"

Rengore returns with more wood then needed. Since this campsite was useful to them maybe others will use it as well so he leaves a little more for weary travelers. The rabbits skulls seem caved in necks broken. Rengore quickly removes their heads skins them and bones them mostly with bear hands. He finds a sturdy branch with many smaller branches to skewer the the pieces of meat on. He wastes nothing even breaks open the fragile bones to get at the marrow.

During all this he speaks to a few of you.

To avani.
Does Avani accept Rengore apology? Rengore mother killed by goblin raid.
That why Rengore get mad. Rengore has no dealings with goblin after. Please tell Rengore what goblin life is like so maybe Rengore not so angry. Maybe Rengore will realize why goblin kill mother.

To spirit
Rengore was not always with tribe. Many Orc tribe abandon old ways. Many Orc tribe not good. Stone claw tribe is good. Live peace. Follow herds. Many trials. Rengore tribe follow totem spirits. Probably different now. Rengore think stone claw tribe change when shaman take over. Shaman exiled Rengore for dishonor. Rengore did not get to feast on father or get father sword.

Spirit why no peace with centaur? Where spirit grow? Rengore picture lizard close to size of goblin holding a spear. Is that lizard folk? What are they like?

To masked man.
No face why use trick to start fire? What would you do if tricks failed? If the spirits didn't honor your request? What is in your Book?

To Al in orcish
Where did you come to learn orcish? I understand the search for family. I too am searching for parts of mine. They may be dead so I don't expect I'll ever find them. I really don't have much to go off of besides the fact that my pa and sis body weren't found.

She pauses for a few moments, thinking about what exactly to say, "My parents ... my birth parents, were killed when i was barely a year old, i dont really remember what happened ... but my parents took me in and raised me as their own, even though the colonists dont much like me. Still, its the only home i really know, and i love my parents for taking care of me." She bends down, bending at the human waist and taking the wood and adding it to the fire already stated when its time, getting that all setup and unpacking her gear. She takes out some food, dried meat and some fresh berries that looks freshly picked, she also checks the food that the orc brought back, making sure its not poisonous or anything. "I really havnt been around my own race, and they consider me a traitor for being around the colonists. So, that makes friendly relations difficult."

Avani sits and inspects her armor and weapons, making sure they aren't damaged after the long day's ride. She speaks with Rengore. "Apology accepted, Rengore. We Goblins follow the spirits of our ancestors. They watch over us and protect us." She pulls out a tiny piece of parchment. On it is a portrait of a different Goblin. "This is my ancestor-guardian. His name is Nirav. He was a great shaman and warrior; he saved his tribe from a rampaging dragon. I hope to be a hero like him. Many Goblins live in the wilderness and use stone weapons and tools. Some, like me, live in the cities as well. The halflings don't treat Goblins well. They have better weapons, so they capture Goblins for slaves. This makes us angry, so we attack other settlements."

zylodrizzt

Rengore tries not to get angry and is confused
So Rengore lose birth family cause goblins mad at halfling? That not right. Rengore do not want to be mad at avani but Rengore must do something for this. Will Avanti do trial? Trial of teamwork. Rengore and Avanti tie together until hurt go away. Long rope.

Nirav sound like great hero. Rengore hero is Ragnok. Ragnok was Rengore father. Chieften of tribe before shaman became leader after trial of no trust and exiled Rengore. Rengore can not return until he complete trial of glory. No crafted weapons cause of dishonor

Rengore have only trade dealings with halfling. Did not know about slaves. Rengore think halfling good warriors. Rengore sorry that halfling not good.
Rengore think it good goblin make own weapons and good honor ancestors. Maybe goblin need to seek out good orc tribe to learn from. Sound like orc but small and bad at craft.

Rengore is pleased. He does rope around his waist as well.
Rengore was not allowed to do trials. Rengore will tell children of this trial. Come avani you must learn the ritual dance and learn the story of first tame. By end of trial avani must know these. By end of trial rope will be much shorter.

Rengore teaches a dance that looks very similar to how a horse moves. As he performs this dance he is ritually casting speak with animals.

Before he starts the story he speaks to spirit.
Rengore bet you be very good at that dance. Does Spirit feel different than real horse? Can Rengore feel?

Rengore then begins the story. He makes sure horses can hear. He is playing the drums softly
Long ago orc did not ride horse. Horse was preyed upon by mountain lion.
Mountain lion would leap upon horse back and there was nothing horse could do. Orc had similar problem. Orc could not outrun mountain lion and also mountain lion hunted all game. One day orc ran across horse with mountain lion on back.
Horse almost trampled orc in confusion. Orc had spear and stabbed mountain lion killing it and knocking it off horse back. Horse and orc spoke to each other and decided to work together. Orc would sit on horse back and protect horse. The next time horse was attacked by mountain lion it was met with spear. From that day on horse and orc friends. Orc protect and care for horse and horse help where horse can. Like transportation. Hunting. Pulling loads. The lesson is to work together.

To Rengore:
Focusing on a confusing series of unknown glyphs within the book, Aeradeth doesn't notice Rengore approach. Rengore's question is met with a slight chuckle, It has failed many times before actually. When I first started the most simple ones still took age to crack. But, the recipes are consistent. This book has the instructions for my magic, but it is quite tough to read. Aeradeth answers rather openly regarding the spellbook, before Rengore is satisfied by the responses and leaves.

Out of the corner of his eye, Aeradeth watches as Rengore goes to the other companions. His attention is pulled as Avani and Rengore grab the rope and tie themselves together. An idea pops into his mind, as he dons the mask to hide his grin. In the long shadows between the fires, Aeradeth completes his hand gestures, and the words of the incantation are muted slightly by the mask.

4th lvl Paladin of the Crown

As the others busy themselves with camp chores, Alofael sets up a tent near the fire but far enough back there's room for someone else between him and the heat.
It would be rude to claim so much real estate right near the flames after all. That finished he drags a large log over for seating and doffs his armor, laying them respectfully inside the tent. He obviously takes great care of his equipment.

While Rengore prepares the meal and the others chit chat, Alofael draws a wooden flute from the satchel on the side of his horse. He begins a slow and relaxing but somber evening tune, but as Rengore starts the dance with Avani, Al brings the tune into a more upbeat and ritualistic rhythm, the downbeats falling with Rengore's heavy footsteps and the occasional crackle of sap in the fire adding punctuation.

As the dance ends and Rengore approaches, Al rests the flute on his lap and gives his attention to the behemoth. You notice immediately that while his Orcish is passable, it's far from mastery of the language.
"This one stationed inside line between elf and orc land. Keep orc out, but too keep calmness. Talk at close orcs - they teach words. Hurl dice. Build music. All just want live. Hunt. Sleep safe. This one follows chief elf, but chiefs not mind people far distance. The same," he finishes inelegantly, gesturing first to Rengore then to himself.

His expression changes to a reflective look as though considering adding more, but he decides against it. Continuing in common he adds, "My uncle came here many years ago. I received a letter from him asking me to... visit. There's something he wanted to share with me. I don't know if he still lives in Talan or has moved on but hope to learn more once Tecreci is safe again."

After the long journey upon the seas, and expeditious leave from town, a full night on the still, dry grasses lulled Aeradeth into a deep sleep. It takes her a short time before she gets out of bed, hearing others moving around she figures she should get up. Rolling out of bed and up to her feet, doing morning stretches and starts to packup her lean too and getting settled with food and sturing up the fire. saying to others, "Good morning."

Having been told the name of his horse, prior to mounting the solid black mare Aeradeth feels compelled to introduce himself. In part to acknowledge that this animal is not only sentient, but intelligent enough to have a name. "Biter, correct? Well, I appreciate you carrying my burden. I am Aeradeth... please don't buck me off your back." Combing his fingers through the mare's mane, he nods approvingly at Biter before donning his mask.

Spirit walks ahead of the group, guiding them through the forest, on a keen eye out for dangers and should some berries or fruit that is editable cross their path then she will stop a moment and pick some, telling the others what is good for eating and what other things they should avoid as they are dangerous. She makes small talk to the others, telling them about this land they have moved to , passing on what information she can.

A branch cracks nearby, and everyone can clearly see a small lizardlike humanoid hiding in the brush, sling in hand. Everyone but spirit notices more of the creatures in the nearby underbrush. Rengore spots all five of the little beasts, as well as a centaur, well hidden behind a tree. The centaur has a pike with a hooked spike on the back.

The kobolds are spread out, three on the left side of the path about 10 feet ahead of Spirit and 15ft from the road. There is about 10ft between each kobold. The other two and the centaur are on the right side of the road, grouped up together with the centaur in the middle. The centaur is about even with spirit, and 20ft off the road.

"You can never trust a prisoner to tell the truth. We won't get any information out of him." As a former bandit and freedom fighter, Avani knows this all too well. "We can't release him, or he'll warn his friends about us, and we can't bring him with us without him betraying us. The only responsible choice is to kill him."

Alofael humphs a bit at the 'responsible choice' comment. "We can't very well kill a bound man.. err... centaur. Where's the honor in that? Leave him be. He'll be out for a few hours. If he tries to warn anyone he'll probably have to pass by us to do it, right?"

The centaur, knocked out and bound, served no threat. And given time, even if left bound would be able to free itself. "No sense in killing an already defeated foe. We'll get our information and leave him bound. He'll be able to wriggle free just in time to watch us finish the job. If he chooses to intervene so be it, a wounded foe would fall easily. As for the information, I believe I have something which may help with that. Alofael, can you reach into my pouch and grab the small, circular container, it'll be tan in color."

Going into the pack on Aeradeth's back, Alofael finds the container fairly quickly. "That's the one. Please open it and wipe a smudge of the makeup on the face of the centaur. When he wakes I'll make sure he sees friends around him. Just in case, Rengore, it may be best for you to stand behind him."

Aeradeth prepares to recite the incantation for the Friends spell as soon as he sees the centaur waking up.

Seeing Alofael pump radiant healing into the centaur, Aeradeth sits cross-legged before the creature, trying to appear as harmless as possible. Performing a series of hand getsures behind his back, Aeradeth whispers to the party, "Stand out of sight, please." before they watch the image of Aeradeth flicker and an illusion of a kobold takes his place.

Aeradeth casts disguise self to appear like a kobold. The centaur can tell it's an illusion with an Intelligence (Investigation) against my spell DC 13. Aeradeth stands out of range for being touched.

At the first groan and fluttering of the his eyes Aeradeth says a couple words low, casting the prepared friend spell.

Speaking in a throaty, draconic-like common, "You still alive? Found you while fleeing, we were attacked. A group of adventurers came out of nowhere. You.. you did nothing. Centaur not in command now, you tell me why my people die!? Why centaur take village!?"

If the centaur doesn't see the illusion, the friend spell should still function, as per DM approval of course.

As the centaur is healed, and the rest of the party hides, he comes to consciousness, struggling against his bonds. As Aeradeth, disguised as a very tall kobold, begins speaking to him in guttural common. The centaur seems confused before responding in a language Aeradeth doesn't understand.

Spirit

You only barely understand the centaur, having not fully grown up with the language. You get the general gist that he is confused why this strange kobold is talking to him in the foreigner's language, and why he isn't showing respect. He also seems confused why he is tied up.

Casting Message:

"I have one other trick I can do, but it'll take a bit of time to pull off."

With his available hand Aeradeth removes two smaller, silvery containers with handwritten labels attached to the sides. Opening the containers with the help of his invisible mage hand, Aeradeth begins to remove pinches of black, powdery soot and granular bits of salt. Arranging the two in a precise manner over a page of his spellbook.

Aeradeth channels arcane power through his blade, and swings, but misses the kobold. He makes a hasty retreat.

Avani dodges back before shooting the eagle (7 damage) and moving towards the other side of the burnt out house.

Centaur 4 rushes away from the flaming sphere and charges Spirit directly. He speaks some words whose precise meaning is lost, but Spirit recognizes the word for betrayal. He swings at her with a long pike and slams a hoof into her side [roll0] [roll1] [roll2] [roll3] (if needed, concentration checks: [roll4] [roll5]. Alofael hurls a long-distance javelin at the fleeing centaur, catching him in his flank (10 damage). It stumbles, but manages to keep moving.

Rengore rushes forward and manages to beat both kobolds into unconciousness with a flurry of feet and shield.
