Have you tried:

Bad religion, or Clutch?

Clutch! Clutch is actually my favourite rock band of all time. Seen them twice in concert (they have only been to Australia twice, so, yeah) and each time I see them, or listen to them, I like them even more. Been listening to them for many a year and it's nice to see their influence is beginning to spread a bit.

My list could probably span several pages, so I'll try to keep it somewhat in check. I could be listening to any of these bands at any time, so in no particular order:

The Beatles
Clutch
Anything with Mike Patton (Faith No More, Mr.Bungle, Fantomas, Tomahawk, ect ect)
God Forbid
Mastodon
Reel Big Fish
Aesop Rock
Atmosphere
Simon & Garfunkel
Pink Floyd
Led Zeppelin
Yasunori Mitsuda
The JDK Band
Nobuo Uematsu
Lacuna Coil
Weird Al
Busdriver
Blind Guardian
The Descendents
Flogging Molly
Soundgarden
Iced Earth
Iron Maiden
Killing Joke
Queen
Primus
Violent Femmes
Virgin Steele

...and that's all I will list because otherwise it will really get out of hand. The ones in bold are the ones I can safely say are the "cream of the crop" of that list. If I had to narrow my list, those are the ones that you could safely assume would remain.

Also, if you know any bands I might like that'd be great. :D

You have a pretty good ear, so I think anything I call "good music" probably will appeal to you (or not, I'm wrong a lot). Some of these might be nothing like what you've listed...but finding stuff that sounds like other stuff...well where's the fun in that? :smallamused:

Well my favorite bands would be the following three, I just never seem to get tired of them:

Depeche Mode - been a fan since I saw the video for People Are People on MTV back in the 80's as a child. My absolute favorite.
VNV Nation - since I was introduced to VNV in the late 90's I've been a pretty devout fan.
Elvis Costello and the Attractions - a friend in high school introduced me to Mr. Costello's music, and I was instantly hooked. I like his solo work and his stuff with the Impostors, but the time with the Attractions was the best in my mind, I just like the aggro sound of his early work.

All that being said, I listen to a lot of different stuff, but those three are definitely the top of my list, as I never get tired of them. Other acts I'm fond of include The Pogues, New Order, Pet Shop Boys, Soft Cell, And One, The Misfits, Kings of Convenience, Royksopp, The Whitest Boy Alive, Nick Cave, The Smiths.

Also, if you know any bands I might like that'd be great. :D

Since you like Jonathan Coulton and Talking Heads, I'm going to recommend Moxy Fruvous. Damn shame they're on permanent hiatus.

Anyway, here's a list of 10 bands I listen to all the damn time:
Blind Guardian, Great Big Sea, Pink Floyd, VNV Nation, Rush, Flogging Molly, Moxy Fruvous, Oingo Boingo, Two Siberians, and Jonathan Coulton.

VNV Nation - since I was introduced to VNV in the late 90's I've been a pretty devout fan.

I'm a pretty big fan of these guys too, though they are a little too synthy for my day to day rotation.

top 5, in no paticular order, are:
:wumpscut: - Rudy is a god of industrial

Velvet Acid Christ - as is Bryan,

3 Inches of Blood - i've been craving metal and they are better than 99% of the other Power Metal bands out there, Dragonforce, i'm looking at you

Funker Vogt - mmmm, dystopian war electro.

Combichrist - hell, anything by Andy LaPluega is amzing, but this also has Shaun F from Glis making it doubely awesome.

The Vanishing Hitchhiker
2007-08-27, 03:51 PM
the Traveling Wilburys (as seen in my avatar)
the Beatles (George is my favorite...you may have already guessed this)
Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, and also just Tom Petty (You might have guessed this one too.)
They Might Be Giants (what?! that has nothing to do with the other bands at all! ...or does it?)
Cat Stevens (one day I woke up and had ten of his albums...course, Back to Earth is pretty meh, but I wouldn't know that without owning it.)

Then there's the ones I don't officially list as my favorites, but seem to have a suspicious amount of music by...Madonna, "Weird Al" Yankovic, Mark Knopfler/Dire Straits...

Then I've got bands where I like a few of their songs, but just can't stand the majority of their output: U2, Dave Matthews Band. I've bought two DMB CDs, only to find I only actually liked two or three songs on each one - well, fool me thrice, shame on me!

Then I've got a bunch of other random songs laying around my MP3 player from a bunch of other random artists, forming the vast majority of my music collection. I've got some Zero 7, Talking Heads, Rolling Stones, Stevie Wonder, Beck, Lemon Demon, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Nine Inch Nails, Groove Armada, Gorillaz...etc. etc.

But yeah. You can ignore everything after the first or possibly second paragraph, since this is a thread about favorite bands. Heh.

Mr Croup
2007-08-27, 03:52 PM
I'm a fan of Funker Vogt as well. I think that one of the reasons that I like VNV so much is because of the synth pop influences in their stuff. I like a lot of industrial, and EBM, but there's no hiding that I'm a New Wave synth pop kid at heart.

Here's mine:

Rammstein

Cat Empire

This is a excellent list. It does however have one fatal flaw.

You don't have Suburban Legends. :smallwink:

You have every other good ska band except these guys. A few of their best songs if you want to check them out are Up All Night and Bright Spring Morning.

Also the old Catch 22 is good, they're pretty much the same band as Streetlight.

Hmm. Since I listen mostly to classical type stuff, I don't have a very extensive list, nor have I heard of too many of those previously mentioned. Behold, sort of slightly a bit in a kind of order possibly similar (then again, maybe not!) to this one: Procol Harum, The Beatles, Blue Öyster Cult. The latter two I don't really consider myself a fan of, I just... Sort of like them. I don't even have any BÖC CDs...

While my taste in music is widespread (from jazz, to celtic, to rock, to classical...but never country or rap), it may be easier to just list the CDs recently played in my car.

Linkin Park- Minutes to Midnight is, by far, their greatest album yet. Their sound has changed a good bit in the best way possible.

Tenacious D- I love their movie soundtrack. I also love their other CD, but so far, the soundtrack has seen more play time recently.

Sick Puppies- Not too well known in the states yet, but this little Australian based band has been a recent addition to my collection. For those of you wondering, they play the song in the Free Hug Campaign video (http://www.freehugscampaign.org/).

Metallica- I mean...why not have this? Metallica is the godfather of rock. Not to mention their version of the Imperial March is friggin AWESOME.

If I had to list everything that has been my favorite, it'd take toooooo long. I'll just save myself the typing expanse and list the notables, three from each letter (and yes, it got pretty daunting, and I cheated on M just because, and I could have cheated on S):

Akercocke
Amorphis
Abbadon Incarnate
Behemoth
Blood Red Throne
Black Sabbath
Cannibal Corpse
Cryptopsy
Chimaira
Deftones
Decapitated
Deranged
Exhumed
Excommunion
Enochian Crescent
Fear Factory
The Faceless
Fear The Clown
Ghoul
Gigantic Brain
Gorerotted
Held Under
Hate
Hate Eternal
Immolation
Insision
Iron Maiden
Joe Satriani
Jungle Rot
Job for a Cowboy
Kataklysm
Korn (by a thread)
Karl Sanders
Lykathea Aflame
Lost Soul
Lynyrd Skynyrd
Mithras
Mucopus
Morbid Angel
Machine Head
Mastodon
Mushroomhead
My Dying Bride
Nevermore
Nile
Neglect
Opeth
Organ Harvest
Obituary
Pantera
Pink Floyd
Pestilence
Quo Vadis (HAHAHA)
Rompeprop
Resurrected
Red Harvest
Sanctuary
Suffocation
Slayer
Trauma
Total Devastation
Theatre of Tragedy
Vader
Vehemence
Vital Remains
Wasteform
Wormed
Zyklon

...and yes, I know some of the band names would make a few of us squeamish... I'm used to it.

I'll second this emphatically. Never before has disco and ska been so awesome together.

Also the old Catch 22 is good, they're pretty much the same band as Streetlight.

Old Catch 22 as in Keasby Nights? Yes. Anything after Tom left just isn't the same caliber as the work done by Bandits of the Acoustic Revolution and Streetlight Manifesto. And having seen both post-Tom Catch 22 and Streetlight live, I have to say that the latter is far better.
