Creating smaller golems

As a DM/GM smaller golems are easy to do. But what about for players? Why can't a player make a medium sized iron golem? In pathfinder it would be the equivalent of adding the young template which lowers the CR by 1.. but how would that effect building costs?

Build effigies, eidolons, topiary guardians of Medium creatures or pick one of the various existing Medium-sized or smaller golems (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?446192-Mechonomicon) and craft it.

A player can't make a medium sized iron golem because there's no stats and crafting information for it. If the DM provides them, they can do so.

Construct pricing is quite frustrating in 3.5. They massively reduced many, but not all of the prices from 3.0/3.25 books, and there's clearly some sort of method behind them, but who knows what it is. Borrow one from another book (3rd party splats and Pathfinder have plenty) make one up yourself, or just eyeball it. Player crafted constructs are a seriously murky area to begin with since that WBL is supposed to be in permanent weapons and defenses rather than destructable minions. Some people think it should be cheap enough you might as well just give the caster a minion class feature, but clearly the books think proper golems ought to be rather expensive.

Medium-sized Iron Golem is in the tabletop books for Diablo II d20 adaptation (along with Clay Golem, Blood Golem, and Fire Golem); since it's supposed to be produced by the Iron Golem spell, no cost was included
