Can that demon that casts spell-like abilities enhance them with something like a metamagic rod or maybe Hellcat Gauntlets? (Magic item compend. 111)

If you go through the rules for Spell-Like Abilities (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/specialAbilities.htm#spellLikeAbilities) there are a bunch of differences listed and then the rules go on to state that "In all other ways, a spell-like ability functions just like a spell". I don't see anything in the list of differences that would prevent something like Hellcat Gauntlets from working on SLAs.

With regard to Metamagic rods, it's a bit different. These hold the essence of a feat that works on spells, but not SLAs. For SLAs there are a different set of feats that accomplish the same thing. (Heighten Spell-Like Ability, Quicken Spell-Like Ability, etc.) Because the feat doesn't work on SLAs, I would say the rod wouldn't either. But a rod of Heighten Spell-Like Ability should work if you can get one.
