But once it's discovered that Mr. Scruffy has contracted a disease (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots1081.html), I could see Belkar wanting to take on Hel, but being totally without the means, even if he does have a dinosaur he can ride.

So a while back, while they were in the desert, Mr. Scruffy got a disease with a five week incubation.

We know the cat is going to die. We can guess that Belkar is not going to like that.

We know that Hel is responsible for this disease. And we can guess that Belkar is going to want to take Hel out.

And wouldn't you know it, this is right around the time when the prophecy has Belkar "taking his last breath".

Prediction: Belkar demonstrates that he really is the sexy shoeless God of war, and becomes a God by taking out the old God.

Besides, is there any better end for a munchkin?

We know the cat is going to die.
We know nothing of the kind.

We know that Hel is responsible for this disease.
Likewise. Far more likely, the Western god of disease is responsible for Mr. Scruffy's infection. Hel took advantage of the opportunity to infect the rest of the party - once they were in the North.

We know nothing of the kind.
Indeed. We can speculate that Mr. Scruffy will need a Cure Disease spell at some point. We no more "know" that he's going to die than we know that everyone on the Mechane, including five of the protagonists of the comic, are going to die.

Also, I'm almost certain that five weeks from the Sphinx Pox joke strip is more time than remains on the prophecy, though I'm not going to do the math now.

Since the last time someone did a count we were down to like four and a half, I think you're right.

Scruffy and Belkar will die together, just like Romeo and Juliet. How romantic.

I’m torn between pointing out the logistical flaws of this theory and writing about how much I would like Belkar to kill a god.

Eh I can do both.

That would be pretty awesome, but his will save is rather lame so I think she'll be able to basically hold person his sexy shoeless young (rhymes with mass) and put paid to that ambition.

Yeah... logistically it’s... not likely. Story wise it’s... also not very likely. But it would be kinda epic. In a sexy shoeless kinda way.

I'd want this to happen, just so I can finally see Belkar use rage... on a god... while riding a dinosaur!

I ..... just don't see the Giant having Belkar ascend into any higher form. I could most certainly be wrong. But I think he's just going to die, most probably at Kraagor's gate for the biggest paralell to the Order of the Scribble, and he may be quite possibly UNCREATED by the Snarl, soul POOFED and GONE, so that no ressurection is even possible. That'd certainly be an end whereas the Oracle could be absolutely certain it would be his last breath "ever".

But, unlike Kraagor, I don't think Belkar will even be mourned by anyone, except Mr. Scruffy (if he lives) or most likely Elan. Elan's got a heart of gold and a brain of walnut. He'd mourn him no matter what. But Roy, Haley, Vaarsuuvius...Durkon if he's back among the living... might just breathe a sigh of relief that he's not their responsibilty anymore. I know that would probably enrage a lot of Belkar fans, but honestly, not every character, no matter how well liked, deserves a happy ending. Redcloak rocks, but he's going to pay the piper at some point, and that will be a proper ending for him. Tsukiko was great comic relief, but I don't think anyone can argue that her end was not perfection in terms of storyline.

Now, yes, Belkar is a nominal protagonist vs antagonist but..... he's still an evil little bastard who sees nothing wrong with murdering anyone nearby to take their stuff, or just for giggles.

Ah, Belkar... the very definition of Token Evil Teammate, the Friend Nobody Likes, and trope illustration for about five other entries on TV Tropes. I, for one, will be sad if his death is less than epic.

But I'm afraid it will be less epic than the OP is suggesting.

Alas, having caused TVTropes entries is no guarantee of importance anywhere but TVTropes.

I concur.

I concur, again.

Battling with a goddess seems a bit too much, specially because no one (aside himself) sees him as a god, so there is no reason for him to ascend to god status. No reason aside him being awesome and deserving it for all the fun he has been during these years, but this is too much meta.

I still think that in the end the protection from evil clasp will be a checkov's gun used to show that he is no more evil. Thus: heroic, altruistic sacrifice, followed by a last (or close enough) sentence being: "Why it doesn't hurt anymore?" and afterlife cooking tuna fish for Mr. Scruffy and Lord Shojo. Happy end for him.
