I started playing TTRPGs with Pathfinder, and I've been thinking about bringing back the weapon, armor, and shield qualities and converting them into 5E.

Mostly as a way to introduce niche weapons & armor without doing a massive amount of work, and without giving a ton of flat +1 bonuses

Bashing shields, flaming swords, Thawing Daggers and the like

Has anyone else done something similar? How balanced did you find them?

I feel converting weapons into 5e is gonna take some work regardless, to get the balance right.

If you're the DM, I would preface any of the ported items you give to the party with the disclaimer that you reserve the right to tweak the mechanics at a later point to adjust it's balance.
If it's too strong an item.. you could also make every use tighten the grip the curse has on them. And now they have to go on a quest to cleanse it. Depending on how long it takes, it might lower the item's power, or it could just be not-cursed if the rest of the party has caught up in power level.
