I'm wanting to do a build off the feat: Ranged Smite Evil - You may apply your smite evil ability to your missile weapons.

I'm trying to figure out if there are any paladin prestige classes that would work with this as I know that staying in paladin isn't the way to go.

Stats don't matter, just looking for pure build.
No homebrew: Only official sources, dragon magazines and such are okay.

Thanks for any ideas!

That reminds me of Zen Archery (Wisdom to Attack), which reminds me of Sir Wisdom the Sad

Except, since you're using a ranged weapon and Zen Archery, you always get Wisdom to Attack, and not only on Smite.

Warmind (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/psionic/prestigeClasses/warMind.htm)isn't homebrew, despite him linking to dandwiki.

Read this thread (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?91310-3-5-Smite-Optimization). Post #12 talks about an intriguing ranged smite build.

Ohhhh boy let me tell you!
Eberron's got a god that is very paladin e that happens to have the Longbow as a favored weapon! Annnnnd a monk/paladin prestige class for it!
As always, your a paladin, and your MAD!
But here we go
(I'll get to it later, I have to go, but the premise is monk/paladin/ prestige class that is in faiths of eberron for the silver flame, add in unorthodox flurry or something that allows you to flurry with a longbow)

If you want to save a feat, there's the Elf Paladin Sub Level from Races of the Wild. They get Ranged Smite instead of the normal melee smite at lv 1

Yeah, I was also planning on suggesting a cleric archer with Fist of Raziel (you have to burn a feat on Power Attack, but the rest of your abilities should work at range), and Person_Man's suggested Ranged Smite Evil + Ordained Champion optimization works perfectly with that. Cloistered Cleric 3/Church Inquisitor 4/Ordained Champion 3/Fist of Raziel 10 is a pretty good starting point. Go with one of the elven martial deities that gets a longbow as a favored weapon (Vandria Gilmadeth has nice flavor here). Open up with CC 3/Church Inquisitor 1, go into Ordained Champion and shuffle away various domain abilities for fighter feats. Three levels of OC is enough, then you can hop back into Church Inquisitor for a couple of levels to avoid dropping caster levels or BAB and to pick up that excellent Pierce Illusion class feature. From there, go into Fist of Raziel and take Ranged Smite Evil, and finish off with a last level of CI.

After all is said and done you'll have +17 BAB and cast as a 17th-level cleric and tons of smite goodies that you can apply through your bow. You won't be as feat starved as you'd think thanks to using Ordained Champion to nab some bonus fighter feats, meaning you can almost certainly afford DMM (Persist) as well. Buff yourself up and enjoy smiting from afar.

In the past I've messed around with Paladin/Consecrated Harrier/Triadic Knight builds using Hunter's Mercy+Kaorti Resin (http://archive.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/re/20031014a) Longbow+Threefold Smite in an attempt to achieve a "one shot, one kill" archetype.

Note for the Ordained Champ build above that if you use an Elvencraft bow, you should be able to channel spells through it as well.

If you have the fey type, you can take a feat called Charming the arrow, which is from the DnD 3.5 archive. This changes your ranged attack rolls with a bow and arrow to use your charisma. It is also a fighter bonus feat. There are a few ways to be Fey type, either by being a duskling from Magic of incarnum or a kilorenfrom from races of the wild, or having the unseelie Fey template from the dragon compendium. If you are a killoren, you also have a Smite that can be used as a ranged attack.

Be sure to ask your GM if they use the stupid-but-RAW ruling that a smite, as a Su ability with no listed action cost, defaults to a standard action (and therefore cannot be used as part of a full attack, which is a real problem) or if they rule that any attack can be declared to be a smite with no separate action cost beyond what it already takes to attack. Ranged attackers who can’t make full attacks kind of suck. (See the Order of the Bow Initiate round of Iron Chef for some creative ways of dealing with that, few of them actually good.)
