Hey guys,

Deep in his mountain lair, a Red Dragon happens along a golden lamp in his horde and unintentionally summons the residing Genie (or intentionally summons it if the dragon wants a wish?), how does the Dragon react and interact with it?

An angel descends from the heavens (for some reason) to be greeted with a Golden Dragon on a mountaintop, Is this interaction only going to be friendly?

A Beholder disintegrates his way into the cavern home of a Purple Dragon, do they compliment each other's colors and proceed to fight to the death or could an alliance be agreed upon (however unlikely as both are *****)?

Are dragons aware enough of the power of extraplanar entities enough to attempt to exploit their powers or do they prefer to wade in their own self-perfection and arrogance?

The Red Dragon would expect the Genie's service. There is no question, as it is bound to the lamp and at the Red's mercy. Plus, it is a dragon and all wise creatures obey dragons.

The Gold Dragon, if old enough, probably greets the angel as an equal. Of course it might be upset if the angel showed up unannounced. But no matter its age, it knows all wise creatures respect dragons.

The beholder probably dispenses with formalities unless it plans to make the Purple Dragon its servant. The Purple Dragon is disinclined to agree. All wise creatures know dragons serve no one.

Basically, dragons are prideful. Their reaction will depend on their type, the other creature, and probably somewhat on their personal knowledge, but it is likely even young dragons will expect some level of respect from even entities such as angels. Additionally, you can play up the Tolkein angle, especially with evil dragons, and make them cowardly and manipulative when not at the immediate advantage.

Depends of the dragon, depends of the entity, and depends of the age of the dragon.

Dragons are generally smart enough to know how powerful those entities are. However, it doesn't mean they will be impressed by that, especially if the Dragon is still stronger.

A good dragon and a celestial will generalky have no reason to be hostile. An evil dragon and a fiend might or might not have reasons to be hostile. Etc.

So really, the answer is "depends on individual circumstances, as well as the setting".
