3.5 with 5e? Help plz.

I have a player who flat out refuses to learn a new edition of DND, and especially not a new game but he's a great player and a great friend. The rest of the group wants to try something different. Specifically, we like infinite cantrips and really just magic in general in 5e. I personally like the customizeabillity of 3.5. does anyone know of a system that combines the two in some semi balanced way?

Pathfinder has infinite cantrips, however some of them are not as awesome as some of 5e ones. It also has the customizeabillity of 3.5.
