View Full Version : D&D 3.x Class Spellsword as a base class

So, being bored as I was earlier, I decided I wanted to explore the idea of turning Spellsword into a base class. I don't know that I'll actually use this in any games I run, but I had fun redesigning the prestige class.
I'm not sure how this would hold up compared to other classes, but I like it (it's neat if not super powerful). Let me know what tweaks you think might help.

If the class feature appears in the original prestige class as it appears in Complete Warrior, assume it functions the same way as it did before (with numerical changes listed on the table). Other than that, here are the changes:
BAB: Average instead of Full. My logic is that a spellsword as a base class would be better than a wizard, but not as good as a fighter.
Spells: Casting as a bard, but with the wizard's spell list. CHA as the casting stat and spontaneous casting.
Swift Channel: Channel a spell as a swift action instead of a move action.
Empowered Weapon: Free Empowered Spell to channeled spells, and does not change the level of the spell (there's already so many restraints on what the spells can do when channelled, at least make it more powerful)

Apologies for the mediocre formatting. It's copied from LibreOffice Calc, and I didn't want to have to completely learn the GitP table settings from scratch.

1. Kill the "width" constraint on the table. It'll make it more pleasant on the eyes.
2. You didn't specify what "Channel does (2nd level) - not so much as a mention/reference.

1. Done. Thank you.
2. I mentioned in the text that if the class feature exists in the original class, it functions as the original class. Channel Spell functions as it does in Complete Warrior's Spellsword PrC.

Or the Duskblade, which is actually from 3.5 in the first place?

Okay, I definitely see the similarities between Duskblade (which I'm sure I knew about at some point, but had forgotten) and Magus (which is from a game I haven't played).

I feel like this is different enough to count as Technically Different™ but since there's already options that function at very similar levels, I think I'll just move on to something else.

Thanks for the input.
