Guidance Needed

I want to make a character based off Sonny from Into the Badlands, he uses sword(s) and martial arts, which feels Monk. I don't know which subclass I'd do, Kensei makes the most sense to me. Anyone who has seen the show or has any ideas is welcome to throw in please. There is no real time frame on this needed. Thank you all!

If the martial arts is for unarmed damage dealing you either want monk or a race with natural weapons (minotaur is king in this if UA is allowed, tabaxi and Lizardfolk also have it). If it is more for shoves, grabs, and creating opportunities to use swords better then I would look at some kind of rogue or rogue fighter. Take expertise in athletics and a high strength and you can shove and grapple all day long, setting up advantage and sneak attack.
