Maze Engine Out Of The Abyss

I am planning to run OOTA soon and have been reading through the module. I’ve got to the Maze Engine section and am confused.
How many times should I be rolling on the maze engine effects table? On the one hand it says that it takes 12 rounds to align itself once activated before the magical effect happens, meaning that it only does one effect before being destroyed in round 13. On the other hand, it says to roll for the magical effect on each of the maze engine’s turns, suggesting that you might roll as many as 12 times. Which is it? 12 or 1? Any assistance or clarification is greatly appreciated.

I'm also doing prep work to run this. My read on it is as follows:

Turn 0: characters start ME
Turns 1-12: ME boots up
Turn 13: ME activates and acts on Init 15
Turn 25: ME sinks into the lava

So you'd roll 12 times on the ME effects table WHICH YOU SHOULD DEFINITELY CONSIDER REVISING.

Yeeeah probably I also have experience with this. A few PCs turned out quite overpowered in my campaign. I'd roll just a few times
